The R&D centers we operate for the government create lasting impact in fields as diverse as cybersecurity, healthcare, aviation, defense, and enterprise transformation.Department Summary:MITRE's Software Engineering Department in the Software Engineering Innovation center focuses on rapid software prototyping and proof of concepts across a wide range of sectors, including defense, homeland security, health, space, and law enforcement. Leveraging agile methodologies, the department provides comprehensive support throughout the entire software lifecycle.We're seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join our team, who not only excels in software development but also innovation and leadership skills. In this position, you will play a critical role in driving technical innovation, leading technical teams, and collaborating with stakeholders to identify and pursue new opportunities for impact.Responsibilities:Oversee the design, development, and deployment of healthy software solutions that address complex problems in areas such as national security, healthcare, and sustainability.Lead and mentor a team of software engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including domain experts, business development, and IR&D to identify and pursue new opportunities.Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including partners, sponsors, academic, and commercial organizations.Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, applying this knowledge to drive innovation and growth.Contribute to the development of business cases, proposals, and pitches to secure funding and partnerships.Represent the organization in external engagements.Basic Qualifications:Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Excellent programming skills in languages such as Java, Python, or C++.Experience with cloud-based technologies, such as AWS or Azure.Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile, User Centered Design, and Behavior Driven Development.Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Capable of obtaining and maintaining a US Government security clearance.This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.Preferred Qualifications:Experience in the not-for-profit sector or social impact organizations.Familiarity with DevSecOps including shift-left and shift-right concepts.Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment approaches.Experience leveraging a modern web framework (such as React or Vue) and related technologies.Knowledge of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data analytics and familiarity with tools and libraries associated with all three.Work Location Type:
