and be among the top three highest scoring candidates willing to accept the position. Also open to any candidate who holds a suitable competitive class Civil Service title in permanent Civil Service status who is eligible for

reinstatement or transfer.

The Town of Greenburgh is seeking a Deputy Town Engineer who will work under the general direction of the Town Engineer. This is a highly responsible position requiring a thorough

knowledge of engineering principles and practices and of the operation of municipal government. While latitude is provided for independent action, the Town Engineer maintains

general supervision and direction of work. The incumbent in this position is authorized to act for and on behalf of the Town Engineer as a Deputy. Supervision over a technical and/or clerical staff is usually a function of the position. Does related work as required.

Annual Salary:

$125,000 – $140,000 DOE

Description/Examples of Work (Illustrative Only):

Assists the Town Engineer with administrative and engineering work of a considerable degree of difficulty and importance.

Supervises, prepares and reviews plans, specifications, designs, cost estimates and time schedules for special construction and proposed maintenance or public works engineering projects for the Town of Greenburgh.

Reviews maps, plans, profiles, and cross sections of engineering projects; interprets and/or enforces the zoning ordinances as required.

Assists the Town Engineer, supervises or undertakes the preparation of specifications, contracts, and calling for bids for municipal engineering projects.

Issues permits for the construction of street openings, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters to private contractors.

Inspects materials and workmanship on highways, sewers, water mains, storm drains, sidewalks, and other public works construction projects to ensure that work is performed

according to plans, specifications, and engineering standards and recommends any necessary improvements for efficiency purposes.

Uses computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail, database, GIS and Auto CAD software in performing work assignments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:

Thorough and working knowledge of the principles and practices of engineering and the sources of engineering information involved in the field.

Good knowledge of design and construction of water mains, sanitary sewers, storm drains, buildings and other public works facilities.

Ability to initiate and develop studies and investigations and to prepare reports.

Ability to express ideas on technical subjects clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

Able to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential tasks of the position.

Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience:

Possession of a Professional Engineer’s License issued by New York State and one (1) year of experience in the field of civil engineering, construction engineering or closely related field, included or supplemented by one.
