Federal Work Study Program

(FWS) is a federally-funded financial aid program that provides subsidized part-time employment for eligible students in order to assist them with postsecondary financial needs. City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) complies with the Department of Education’s regulations regarding the FWS program and allows students to benefit from this opportunity.PRIMARY OBJECTIVEThe FWS program encourages students to gain experience in their prospective fields by placing them in areas and departments aligned with their area of study whenever possible. Students are able to use their wages towards educational and living expenses.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Assisting with the department’s voter registration, non-partisan voter education, and voter turnout initiatives, which may include coordinating with Chicago Votes, League of Women Voters and Student Government.Provides support for the growth and expansion of civic engagement programming.Supports marketing, outreach plans, and campaigns focused on civic engagement.Participates in outreach for civic engagement at information fairs and other opportunities.Build and maintain relationships with local neighborhood leaders and block clubs to cultivate relationships and collaboration on shared civic concerns on behalf of the College.Helps guide current students towards CCC resources – voter registration, pledge to vote, etc.Answers questions that students may have about Civic Engagement.Encourages student participation in CCC civic engagement initiatives.Participates in and supports the execution of on-campus activities.Copies materials used to promote civic engagement campaigns for fairs, workshops, and tabling.Sets a positive/supportive introduction to civic engagement for new and returning students.Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.QUALIFICATIONSEligibility Requirements:Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States.Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours pre-credit or credit classes.Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate.Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students).Applicants must be in “good standing” – no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions.Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago.All positions are “employment at-will.”Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago.Excellent oral communication skills.Excellent customer service skills.Promotes a positive role model and favorable public image as a City Colleges of Chicago representative.Past admin or assistant experience.Knowledge of office management systems and procedures.Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong organizational and planning skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office.City Colleges of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
