Job Description

We are currently looking for one (1) Catholic Youth Director.

The ideal candidate shall serve as the resource person, advisor, and coordinator for the CATHOLIC Youth Program at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Hours:

This is a part-time position – approximately 24 hrs. per week. Weekend and Holiday hours may be required. Remote work hours may be available.

Responsibilities

Provide and direct a youth program in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the designated Chaplain or Priest.

Develop a specific vision for the youth program with the designated Chaplain or Priest on an annual basis.

Direct the youth ministry program, recruit volunteers, procure supplies, train volunteer staff as needed, and supervise the year-round activity.

Organize youth groups for Jr High and Senior High students, as well as their discipleship classes; recruit volunteer teachers, substitutes, and other necessary staff, train teachers and substitutes, and provide workshops as required.

Organize at least 2 outreach events annually for teens not involved in the chapel program.

Develop a mission statement for the youth ministry which reflects biblical and Roman Catholic principles of music, missions, evangelism, discipleship, and personal development.

Be a participating member of the JB MDL CATHOLIC Community by attending CATHOLIC weekend worship services every week, recruiting volunteers, promoting the youth ministry, and providing program announcements in coordination with respective service chaplains and the CATHOLIC Community Coordinator.

Plan and lead CATHOLIC youth retreats, mission trips, social events, worship services, and other special events as specified in the annual program plan.

Coordinate at least 2 retreats a year, and necessary social events, lock-ins, and other programs to support the annual program plan.

Coordinate orientation for new volunteer staff members.

Organize at least two volunteer training events each year, one in the fall and one in the spring.

Plan one volunteer recognition event and consider ways to honor and recognize the volunteer staff during the year.

Comply with all Federal, State, and Local Laws and requirements and military Instructions that are applicable.

Ensure all volunteers working with youth below 18 years of age receive a background check with a favorable determination.

Maintain a record of volunteers who have current background checks.

Ensure all volunteers are aware of local safety requirements and procedures.

Ensure the security and cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with their programs.

Develop an annual calendar of events, program budget, and core religious curriculum.

Arrive or ensure a responsible volunteer adult arrives at least one-half hour prior to the beginning of classes.

Visit each class at least twice a month or as requested by volunteer teachers.

Maintain a record of enrollment and attendance.

Maintain a current roster of the volunteer staff.

Lead weekly youth group, discipleship class, and other activities as needed.

Attend all CATHOLIC community advisory council meetings as a non-voting member.

Be responsible for supplies and keys provided by the government.

Qualifications

Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. A degree in Theology or Religious studies is preferred.

Must be able to provide a creative vision for short- and long-term growth and development of the youth program by submitting a one-paragraph summary for vision, growth and development of the youth program.

Must demonstrate enthusiasm for youth ministry.

Two letters of reference are required demonstrating enthusiasm for youth ministry.

Must have at least 2 years recent experience as a youth ministry pastor, director, or director of religious education.

Must be able to provide documented proof of Basic Catechist Certification.

Must be able to provide documented proof of Advanced Catechist Certificate Program completion.

Must have the ability to constructively work well with others in a pluralistic environment.

Must have the ability to work unsupervised in a fluid and sometimes-stressful environment with staff and volunteers.

Possess an ability to maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with coworkers and customers. Submit one letter of reference to show these attributes.

Military experience is preferred but not required.

Be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English in order to perform all responsibilities. Candidate should be able to clearly communicate, verbally and in writing, the needs and goals of the Catholic Community to chapel staff, volunteers, program participants, and customers.

Must be able to efficiently organize and manage diverse program elements.

Must maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum, including but not limited to dress, grooming, and appearance.

Must have a working knowledge of computers in order to perform all administrative tasks and be familiar with Microsoft Office products.

Must have reliable transportation with adequate, up-to-date vehicle insurance.
