Benefits are available.Summary:The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.Responsibilities:Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.Updating patient information.Collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures.Properly explaining in a clear but courteous manner the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and/or other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required.Demonstrating techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understanding all of the physicians' orders.Matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.Checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness.Packing specimens for transport.Storing specimen samples according to required temperature and placing samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.Accurately labeling and following different procedures as outlined by specific protocols deemed necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.Understanding and complying with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attending annual department trainings.Answering telephone calls and reading laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Minimum Qualifications:Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed, as required in some states.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.0-2 years of experience.
