DescriptionLocated in the heart of Dallas, Texas Institute for Surgery (TIS) is a state-of-the-art surgical hospital dedicated to providing the best in surgical services in combination with renowned patient care. Our facility has nine OR's, three pain management/lithotripsy treatment rooms and CT scan radiology services. There are also nine patient and family-friendly inpatient rooms for longer recovery needs.

TIS was founded and is jointly owned by a select group of highly-acclaimed Dallas surgeons and Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas. TIS surgeons specialize in orthopaedic surgery, back and spine surgery, pain management, ENT procedures, plastic surgery, foot and ankle surgery, urological surgical care, sports medicine and other specialties.

PURPOSE:

Responsible for the knowledge of aseptic technique, a basic knowledge of operative procedures and instrumentation. Responsible for tasks that extend beyond patient care which are required for the efficient organization and management of the O.R.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs scrub responsibilities in accordance with unit standards on all assigned procedures.

Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.

Demonstrates knowledge of table set-ups, instrumentation, supplies, equipment, medications/solutions on surgeon's preference cards, etc., for all assigned cases.

Keeps track of all needles, sponges, instrumentation and communicates with circulator and relieving scrub. Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.

Circulator and scrub will work together as a team to complete tasks.

Accepts responsibility to identify patient problems and reports to physicians and other O.R. team members.

Identifies individual learning needs and pursues appropriate educational programs.

Participates in unit-based plan for orientation of new employees to prepare them for their specific duties and responsibilities.

Utilizes resources appropriately and identifies opportunities for cost-containment.

Serves on committees or performs special projects as needed.

Performs other duties of a related nature as required.

QualificationsExperience:

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Certified Surgical Technologist-preferable by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.

Graduate from a surgical technology program accredited through ARC/STSA.

2 years experience as a Surgical Technologist in multiple specialties preferred.
