Department Profile: The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is embedded within the Firm’s business line. It is responsible for identifying, assessing, and escalating potential money laundering and reputational risk issues associated with higher risk client types. The WM and U.S. Banks Financial Crimes Risk Team is considered the first line of defense and supports the onboarding, enhanced due diligence, and negative news processes for Morgan Stanley.Responsibilities:The role of the Review Associate is to evaluate exception requests to apply a risk-based approach based on the account limitations, the purpose of the temporary exception request, the risk factors associated with the client, and the status of pending requirements. The Associate will:Review the exception requests submitted by the Field;Gather comprehensive information on the reason behind the account limitations, the purpose of the temporary exception request, and the high-risk factors associated with the client and individual transactions;Communicate with Business Units and/or 1L AML Risk where additional information is needed, such as status of pending reviews, purpose of transactions, client risk factors, etc.;Liaise with the Risk Officer, and second line partners where necessary;Assess the ultimate risk of concurring with the temporary exception request of the limitation and making a risk-based decision;Develop an understanding of Financial Crime regulations, policies, and procedures;Provide guidance on policy and procedures to various stakeholders;Conduct trainings to various stakeholders.Qualifications:Have 1-4 years of relevant experience with BSA/AML Regulations within the financial services industry, or at a financial services regulator (e.g., FINRA, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Federal Reserve Bank, Securities and Exchange Commission, etc.);Undergraduate degree in Business, Finance, or other related field;Working knowledge of MS Office suite;Certified as an Anti-Money Laundering Specialist by ACAMS or equivalent AML certification/license is a plus;Strong knowledge of Know Your Customer, Customer Identification Program and CDD requirements;Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;Strong work ethic with an ability to work both independently and with team members, under tight deadlines;Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment;Ability to work in a matrixed organization, leveraging resources across the organization to complete deliverables;Ability to handle highly confidential information professionally and with appropriate discretion.Morgan Stanley's goal is to build and maintain a workforce that is diverse in experience and background but uniform in reflecting our standards of integrity and excellence.
