Microbiology Technician

to join our growing team!JOB SUMMARYPrepare samples for analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmentals. The role is responsible for the application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies used in analytical testing.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESPrepare samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemistriesApply aseptic techniques in daily workloadMaintain media and reagents as needed for daily microbiological testingInventory and report expendable supplies/materials needed for testing requirementsProvide routine preventive maintenance by daily cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposalPerform quality control monitoring by taking incubator temperatures, inoculating control organisms, running media controls, etc.Independently pursue an assigned series of processes, procedures, or techniques in accordance with FSNS policies/procedures and customer requirementsMaintain laboratory condition, to include equipment, supplies, quality assurance programs, and accurate records throughout all proceduresPerform all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient mannerShare information in an open, and timely mannerAssisting with managing priorities and schedule such that individual goals as well as team goals are achieved with encouraged participation in the Food Safety Net Services TeamResponsible for the safety of oneself and others working within their areaResponsible for the completion of required trainingMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSHigh School diploma or GEDAssociate degree in Life Science or two years of laboratory experience, preferredBroad knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of a food testing laboratoryAbility to travel is preferredOr equivalent combination of education and experiencePHYSICAL DEMANDSDexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse and to handle other communications/computer componentsPotential exposure to odors, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, and microbiological pathogensNoise level varies from quiet to loudTemperature varies from hot to coldInteractive and fast-paced team oriented tasksOccasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.Color vision and depth perceptionBenefits:Progressive 401k Retirement Savings PlanEmployer Paid Short- Term and Long-Term Disability, and Life InsuranceGroup MedicalTuition ReimbursementFlexible Spending AccountsDentalPaid Holidays and Time OffMany positions which qualify for the company bonus programCertified Group values diversity in its workforce.
