Major Responsibilities:Provides care for the psychological and physical needs of patients for C.A.T. scans. Prepares patient for exams as required and insures patient comfort and modesty always.Participates in transfer of patients if needed, positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure to obtain the desired diagnostic image and results.Follows all department established and appropriate policies and procedures as required.Provides protection to unaffected areas of the body from radiation exposure utilizing lead shields in accordance with prescribed safety standards.Performs complex specialized tasks associated with the performance of CAT scans. Sets up and operates CT Scanner for all CT interventional studies.Assists Radiologist during procedures as required.Evaluates CT scans for technical quality; collates processed images in sequence and appropriate label.Prepares CT images for reading by Radiologist through PACs. Starts IVs and administers oral and IV contrast as per policy and protocol.Orients and trains new CT Technologists and students.Maintains accurate patient records, documents all CT information.Stocks and cleans scanner rooms, and notifies supervisor of supply needs.Transport patients as needed.Works as Radiographic Technologist and performs duties in other areas and/or modalities as needed.Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdown immediately to supervisor.Maintains work area in clean and orderly condition and ensures that examination rooms are properly supplied with equipment and materials.Understands and practices ALARA principles of Radiation Protection.II. Position Qualifications:License/Certification/Education:ARRT certification in Radiology is required.RTR licensure in Commonwealth Massachusetts is required.CT modality requires a Sub-specialty (CT) certification within 1 year of employment.BLS certification is required.Maintaining all area specific CEUs for ARRT, DPH according to regulation is required.Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:Work is considered sedentary.
