Position Overview:

The Therapist serves the residents/guests and students of SDRM and acts as a resource for the Mission. This position provides clinically sound therapy, leadership, training, and partners with Mission Academy Students and our Downtown Navigation Center toward achieving greater emotional and spiritual wholeness as part of successful program completion. This position reports directly to the Director.

The Therapist will provide Standard of Care in an ethical and legal manner, utilize appropriate clinical therapeutic modalities for Mission Academy Students through individual, family, group therapy, class instruction, and training; and refer applicants to other facilities for more extensive care, if needed.

Foster and maintain Community partnerships to enhance coordinating admissions, process external referrals to admission department for approval.

Provides screening, clinical assessments, case management and support to clients diagnosed with severe mental illness and dual-diagnosed clients.

Provides individual contacts, group, and milieu behavior health services and activities for clients within scope of practice.

Assists clients with discharge planning and conducts participate in care coordination. Works closely with various providers in the region or system to facilitate access to services.

Conducts crisis intervention and risk assessment. Provides crisis intervention/triage as appropriate and as needed.

Develops individual treatment and relapse prevention plans, and participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning.

Conducts initial assessment interviews with internally referred students/clients to obtain information concerning medical/psychiatric history, and other pertinent information.

Request collateral and records for potential client and current student/clients with a mental health illness and substance abuse challenges and complete informed assessments.

Facilitate and conduct individual and group counseling sessions.

Coordinates with the multidisciplinary team regarding client's mental health need and assist with referrals/discharge planning for appropriate level of care.

Education:

Master's degree in psychology/Social Sciences

Experience:

Minimum 2 years full-time work experience with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction challenges, mental illness, and/or co-occurring disorders. Nonprofit experience preferred. Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy trained, preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook); typing (min 35 wpm); coordinate and/or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully; exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions; attentive to detail; prioritize effectively; effective oral and written communication skills; eagerness to learn and be trained; work both independently and as part of a team; provide accurate information to public by answering questions and requests in a timely and professional manner.

Language:

Bilingual preferred.

Special License/Certification:

BBS eligible for registered AMFT or ASW, preferred. Clinical supervision is provided for those seeking licensure with BBS or Drug and Alcohol credentials.

Travel/Transportation:

The incumbent must travel on a regular (or periodic) basis, as the job requires.

MANAGERIAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITYThe incumbent has no supervision of paid staff.

ENVIRONMENTThe incumbent has a private office that is generally clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.

The incumbent works in a residential setting, which consists of individuals who may have a mental or physical disability or illness.

Physical resources may be limited, and in some cases, are donated.
