Firmware engineers work with electrical engineers, embedded engineers and systems engineers to design and develop custom PCB’s, control systems, modern aerospace sensors, state-of-the-art UAV avionics, and groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence applications.As a member of the Firmware team, you will be responsible for recommending and specifying hardware components, executing software bring up on custom electronic boards and systems, integration of new real-time and general-purpose operating systems, and writing “Bare Metal” software for a variety of sensors and interfaces.WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Software bring up of new robotic platforms, control systems, and custom PCBAsDevelop bare-metal firmware for controlling flight critical componentsCreate software for system diagnostics and testingWork with and modify internal software build systemsResearch, design, and implement state-of-the-art vehicle interface software, taking ideas from conception to field deploymentPrototype and bring up new hardware platformsDevelop novel and efficient solutions in domains such as motor control, radio communications and vehicle networkingPROJECTS YOU MIGHT WORK ON:
Refine repository of existing firmware to support new hardware, features, and capabilitiesIntegrate real-time operating system onto custom System-On-a-Module (SOM)Develop firmware to control robotic vehicles in flightConvert legacy bare-metal software to a RTOS based systemCreate new CI/CD pipelines with automated testing for embedded systemsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
7+ years of professional firmware development experienceBachelors in CS, CE, EE, or requisite experienceStrong C/C++ background a mustExperience in bare-metal firmware development for embedded systemsLinux Kernel or RTOS development - device trees and bring up on new hardwareFamiliarity with writing thread-safe multi-threaded programsFamiliarity with common version control (git) and build systems (CMake, or similar)Experience in a collaborative development environment, focused on continuous integration/delivery & test-driven developmentDemonstrated record of working hard, strong communication skills, being a trustworthy teammate, and being kind to othersPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Control software development for vehicles or robots4+ years avionics development experienceExperience working on safety-critical applications in a regulated industry (civil aviation, automotive, etc.)Salary: $135,789 - $184,462 a yearTotal package details:Regular employee positions: Salary within range listed above + Bonus + Benefits + Equity (if applicable)Temporary employee positions: Hourly within range listed above + temporary benefits package (applicable after 60 days of employment)*Interns/Military Fellows/Part-time not eligible for bonus, benefits or equityActual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, licenses and certifications, and specific work location.
