What's the role?We are seeking a hardworking Senior Systems Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual who will play a pivotal role in the Cloud Enablement team, working at the core of Northwestern Mutual's Cloud Paradigm. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the success of high-priority efforts for the company by providing consulting services and technical expertise. You will work closely with engineering teams to empower them in delivering and maintaining high-quality cloud applications using standard cloud patterns and best practices.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with development teams to apply automation patterns and optimize their use of Northwestern Mutual's cloud platform, built on AWSAct as the main point of contact for teams onboarding to the cloud, providing guidance and support from a Cloud & DevOps perspectivePartner with other enterprise teams, leveraging industry and enterprise best practices to design and implement efficient and scalable solutionsContinuously improve patterns and workflows based on feedback from development teams and industry advancementsProactively learn and stay updated on emerging platforms and related technologies, ensuring the team is up-to-date with the latest trendsSolve complex technical issues and provide coaching and mentorship to enable engineering teams to become self-sufficientProvide thought leadership and contribute to the team's growth and successContribute to internal tooling that improves the experience of the cloud platformContribute to our Cloud & DevOps Learning platform that provides hands-on labs that are utilized to upskill the organizationBring you best! What this role needs?Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experienceMinimum of 8 years of professional IT experience in a highly regulated and complex environment, with a diverse skill set spanning infrastructure, databases, security, software development, networking, and application architecture5+ years experience writing code in JavaScript/Typescript or Python. Experience with React is a plus5+ years experience with Linux and Windows, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. Comfortable with CLI3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS. AWS Associate or Professional level certifications, or the ability and interest to acquire them, will be necessaryStrong experience with integration of n-tier applications, including REST, DNS, HTTP, SSL, encryption, authentication, and load balancingProficient with CI/CD concepts and tools such as GitLab, testing methodologies, change management, blue/green & canary deployments, and infrastructure as codeCreative problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical challengesDeep passion for helping others succeed and a proven ability to coach and mentorExcellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide thought leadership within the team and work effectively across the organizationFamiliarity with Agile methodologies and working in a DevOps environmentStrong sense of ownership and the ability to work with a limited set of requirementsAbility to explain technical solutions to technical teams and non-technical teamsOur Benefits!Highly competitive compensation, including annual bonus opportunitiesMedical/Dental/Vision plans, 401(k), pension programTuition reimbursement, commuter plans, and paid time offExtensive Professional Training OpportunitiesExcellent Work/Life Balance#LI-hybrid

Compensation Range:Pay Range - Start:$100,030.00

Pay Range - End:$185,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
