Primary Purpose:

The Principle DCS Systems Engineer will demonstrate process control system engineering and programming/diagnostics expertise, safety instrumented system and emergency shutdown system expertise, safety integrity level expertise, and control maintenance services capital planning and execution expertise, for the facility. Works closely with other staff to provide control engineering services where needed.

This position is located in Hackberry, LA.

Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) is required. Employees’ primary residence must be located within a one-hour drive from the Hackberry plant site. This measure will assure that response time for callouts is kept to a minimum, which increases the safety of our employees in an unexpected or emergent situation.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Oversees the process controls systems from an engineering perspective and assures all design modifications or additions of the same are performed professionally and in strict accordance with company procedures and code compliances. Assures all planning, scheduling and managing all process control engineering activities, emergency shutdown system (ESD) and safety instrumented system (SIS) activities, and safety integrity level (SIL) activities related to plant facilities are coordinated and performed safely and efficiently. Leads resolution of any alarm flooding, management, and rationalization issues.

Provides daily process control, SIS, and ESD supports to the plant to keep the plant systems operational. Improves and ensures the reliability and integrity of the SIS, ESD, and process control systems. Optimizes the SIS, ESD, SIL, and process controls systems for efficiency and equipment reliability.

Develops or supports the development of proposals for facility improvements including design basis and preliminary estimates for capital projects as assigned. During development and construction, supports the Program Manager as assigned to minimize overruns in project-related spending. Helps develop process control, SIS, ESD, and SIL maintenance requirements for all operational projects and new developments, from conception to completion in line with budgets and on time scheduling.

Ensures that documentation for the process control, SIS, ESD, and SIL systems are maintained properly. Participates in the development of documentation standards including updates to the unit operating manuals. Participates in the Management of Change process. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks and develops documentation.

Assists in developing and managing budgets and schedules to meet financial targets with an understanding of the accounting and procurement procedures and guidelines and abides by them.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering required (Electrical, Electronic or Chemical discipline preferred).

Experience:

Minimum of 14 years of direct DCS experience required; and a minimum of 4+ years of experience in a similar position of responsibility and expertise in an operating LNG Liquefaction facility preferred.

At least 15 years in the chemical, petrochemical, or oil and gas industry.

Has proven track record in troubleshooting and analysis of instrumentation and process control system problems.

Prior experience with DeltaV control systems and Rockwell PLC systems preferred. Experience with GE Mark-VI is desired.

Prior experience in solving alarm management systems, preferred.

Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities:

Have basic computer skills including project management, database, and use of Microsoft Office programs.

Possesses good planning and organization skills and meets work deadlines.

Provides leadership and discipline expertise to less experienced support staff, engineering design, maintenance, and operation groups.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to communicate fluently in English.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to stand, walk, climb, run, sit, kneel, twist, bend, pull, push, carry, lift, reach overhead and drive. Most activities involve movement of either the upper and lower body extremities or both and the joints associated with these areas of the body.

Must be able to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods of time.

Must be willing to be on call, work outside of normal business hours as required and handle emergency response responsibilities.

Must be willing to travel for trainings and/or meetings as required.
