The Role:This position plays a key role in shaping the transformation of NW Natural as we seek to use innovative approaches to helping reduce the need for capacity infrastructure investments while maintaining reliability and affordability for customers and reducing our impact on the environment. The successful candidate thinks out of the box and develops programs that can optimize energy usage during peak demand periods, can lead complex quantitative and qualitative analyses to help develop, execute and evaluate the performance of programs and do so whilst keeping the customer centered.This position would be part of the Integrated Resource Team and requires the ability to work closely with other departments such as Customer Life Cycle, Engineering, Regulatory and others whilst balancing multiple projects, and deadlines. In this role, you would use your knowledge of various analyses including cost-effectiveness tests such as total resource cost and utility cost test, measurement and verification, break-even, triple-bottom line, financial, and regulatory impact analysis in addition to help analyze trends, validate predictive models, and improve and inform strategic business decisions. This position also would leverage your communication skills to present and communicate complex analyses to nontechnical audience in an effective manner.

Day to Day:Work with Engineering to identify areas that could benefit from Peak Load Management programs.Develop and implement strategies to efficiently manage peak load demand primarily through the use of non-pipeline demand side solutions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute load management programs.Evaluate, measure and verify the performance of peak load management programs using data collected pre and post implementation (e.g., cost-effectiveness, peak hour and day therms savings, etc...).Monitor program development and energy consumption dynamics and identify opportunities for dispatching peak load management events.Coordinate with utility partners, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with load management goals.Analyze data and trends to forecast peak demand and allocate resources effectively.Evaluate the effectiveness of load reduction initiatives and recommend improvements.Work with Customer Lifecyle Management which lead outreach efforts to educate customers about load management programs and incentives.Manage program budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.Along with the Sr. Economist, be the company Subject Matter Expert on NPA and stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies related to load management.Contributes technical analyses to the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) and other reports as needed including preparing graphics and presentations in Technical Working Groups and other public meetings.Evaluates equity considerations and supports environmental justice initiatives with technical analyses.Come on your first day with:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical discipline (Economics, Statistics, Math, Operations Research, Computer Science or similar field) and 3+ years in relevant technical discipline. Master’s degree and additional years’ experience required for level 3.Highly proficient in SAS/Stata/R or other statistical programming applications.Proven ability to apply econometric modeling, stationary and nonstationary time series analysis, data mining, Monte Carlo simulation, or other data analytical skills.Experience in a regulated utility environment, utility demand forecasting, or energy system planning preferred.Effective verbal communication skills on an individual and group presentation basis, including negotiation and facilitation skills and techniques.Experience creating compelling presentations using data visualization software and PowerPoint.Demonstrated ability to be self-managed, organize time/projects and apply skills in problem solving and decision-making, as well as the ability to facilitate and coordinate projects, resources and personnel.Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency, and inclusivity and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.Eagerness to accept and complete challenging and dynamic work.Certified energy manager and/or certified measurement & verification professional preferred.

$70,700.00 - $97,000.00 (Level 2) or $83,850.00 - $119,450.00 (Level 3) per year, depending on qualificationsAnnual Target Incentive:

Level 2 , 7.5% targetLevel 3, 9.5% targetTargets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years.
