HDR is hiring an ITS Engineer for our South Florida transportation practice.
This position can be located in either our Doral or Fort Lauderdale offices.
Primary Responsibilities
The ITS Engineer will assist senior-level staff in planning, designing, and implementing technology solutions for transportation issues. They will be part of our Advanced Technology for Surface Transportation business class, supporting the emerging areas of ITS, TSM&O, Zero Emission Mobility, and Tolls, for a diverse range of clients. This position will also support client relationship building and proactively researching transportation technology solutions. Duties include:
Provide engineering support on ITS and Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) projects, including planning, engineering, design, integration, deployment, operations and maintenance, communications, and overall management.Assist with projects related to ITS program management and oversight, Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O), Advanced Transportation Management Systems (ATMS), Transportation Management Centers (TMC), Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), Managed Lanes, Automated Connected Electric and Shared (ACES) vehicle technologies, and associated performance measures.Design and preparation of ITS, traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, and maintenance of traffic plans.Development of traffic/ITS technical requirements for design-build procurements.Design and preparation of construction plans for signalization, signing and pavements marking, lighting, and ITS.Participate in Automated, Connected, Electric, and Shared (ACES) vehicle projects and emerging technology projects nationally.Design of central/field communications, traffic control equipment, communications devices, traffic controller hardware and software, transit signal priority, CCTV cameras, DMS, traffic detectors, and electronic tolling equipment.Perform traffic engineering tasks relating to signal timing, including analysis and field implementation.Coordinate workload with project managers.Implement QNQC procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or other related Engineering fields.Minimum of 5 years of experience working on related technology-based projects.Familiarity in signal timing, ATSPMs, and adaptive traffic control systems.Experience working with state DOTs, and other local agencies.Experience in standards and specifications from state DOTs, local agencies, and industry.Business development and mentoring skills.Interest in data analytics.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree.Experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Detailed hands-on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms including MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Guide Sign software.Detailed hands-on experience conducting operational analysis using a variety of analysis and modeling tools specific to support job duties, including HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun.Detailed hands-on experience conducting safety analysis using a variety of safety software tools including Highway Safety Software.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word.Strong verbal and written skills.An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
