Business Support group, you will play a crucial role in supporting and advancing all technical aspects of our development and production. We are looking for an experienced chemist to join our small and agile team, bringing innovative solutions and leadership to our projects.This position offers a unique opportunity to work on product troubleshooting and supply security for all types of protective and marine coatings. Your role will be crucial in driving formula cost reduction, supply security and customer solutions. You will collaborate with various other business functions such as manufacturing, product management, procurement, marketing, sales, technical services, quality assurance, legal, and product stewardship departments. As a senior chemist, you will apply your knowledge to design experiments to develop root cause analyses for all types of product issues. You will also be involved in designing and conducting experiments and evaluations while maintaining the utmost safety adherence and awareness. There will also be the opportunity to periodically travel and engage with manufacturing or customer sites for product scale-ups and investigations.Join us in this exciting role and make a significant impact on the future of protective and marine coatings.You will work onsite at our Harmar, PA facility and report directly to the PMC Business Support team lead.Responsibilities:Create a culture where safety comes first and ensure compliance with PPG environmental, health, and safety policies.Drive projects against set milestones and deliver results.Coordinate related activities including formulation, processing, testing and application.Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop paints & stains.Apply statistical tools (Six Sigma), design of experiment, and structure-property-relationship principles daily to research duties.Document experiments and conclusions in a clear, concise, and searchable manner.Complete work at the bench to promote best practices to the broader PPG Architectural team.Work closely with product management, manufacturing and procurement organizations, to develop new products and maintain existing product lines through formulation and product optimization.Maintain an environment dedicated to scientific excellence where hypothesis-driven research and statistical rigor are applied to understand and solve problems.Ensure alignment to standard methodologies for product development and formulation practice creation.Support product management and manufacturing to complete tasks within larger projects.Support a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion so that every employee can bring their full self to work each day.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or greater in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, Engineering, Polymer Science, or a relevant technical field with a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a lab setting required.Previous experience in coatings technology and/or coatings manufacturing is preferred.About us:Here at PPG we make it happen, and we are looking for candidates of the highest integrity and professional candor who share our values, with the commitment and drive to strive today to do better than yesterday - everyday.PPG: WE PROTECT AND BEAUTIFY THE WORLDThrough leadership in innovation, sustainability and color, PPG helps customers in industrial, transportation, consumer products, and construction markets and aftermarkets to enhance more surfaces in more ways than does any other company.
