Summary of PositionThe Food Initiatives Program Manager leads Augsburg’s food justice and food access initiatives. This includes directing the Campus Kitchen program and developing the leadership of the students who run it, addressing food insecurity by increasing access to healthy affordable food on campus and in surrounding communities, managing curricular and co-curricular opportunities related to food justice, and leading place-based food initiatives with community partners. The Food Initiatives Program Manager connects Campus Kitchen work with the work of the Sabo Center by developing opportunities for experiential learning in civic and community leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

Oversight of Food Initiatives

Lead campus-wide strategic planning and conversation around food issues.

Manage annual budget, partner with Institutional Advancement for donor fundraising.

Develop case statements and write grants for food initiatives as opportunities arise.

Supervise full-time Food Justice Program Associate (Lutheran Volunteer Corps member) and/or full-time AmeriCorps VISTA member who work on food initiatives.

Campus Kitchen Program

Supervise, train, and mentor 8-12 paid Augsburg student employees and interns each semester, create and implement leadership development opportunities, teach program management and community building skills.

Recruit volunteers and oversee program logistics including supplies, transportation, food safety, student and community partner schedules, etc.

Manage existing community partner relationships and actively pursue other connections and opportunities with local food networks.

Place-Based Food Justice Work

Manage and convene the Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood Food Initiative partners and sub-committees.

Engage faculty, staff, students, and community partners in collaborative project work.

Connect faculty and academic departments with opportunities to engage with food justice work.

Student Success Food Access Initiatives

Lead efforts to expand students’ access to healthy affordable food via the Campus Cupboard student food shelf and Augsburg’s SNAP benefits referral program.

Manage co-curricular opportunities in the Food Lab and through Campus Kitchen work as a stakeholder in partnership with academic departments.

Represent Augsburg in state-wide and city-wide college food access working groups.

Support Sabo Center’s civic and community engagement programs.

Other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Typical work environment is an office. Sedentary work for long periods of time.

Regular computer and phone use.

Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs.

Local travel within the Twin Cities area.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Four (4) years of relevant experience in food access, community engagement, relationship building, and program coordination.

Valid MN driver’s license.
