SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking a

Project Operations Accountant

that will provide accounting, analysis, and financial support to one or more teams overseeing completion of a construction project. This individual will serve as the key liaison from the Finance and Accounting department to the project team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Review the construction contract requirements for assigned projects (i.e., lump sum and/or larger cost-plus)

Utilize contract summary for daily workPerform budget allocations as requiredMay provide assistance in complying with various other contract requirements, i.e., certified payroll reporting, minority participation reporting, or providing necessary information to maintain insurance for the projectAssist in tracking subcontractor lien waivers if necessary

Process receivables in a timely manner to result in a favorable project cash flow

Prepare less complex cost-plus project billings, ensuring all allowable costs are billed in a timely mannerRespond to resulting questions from customer or project managerEnsure cash receipts are posted to the correct invoiceElevate awareness of financial implications that can be addressed or reversedWork with the project team to assure timely payment receiptMay prepare lump sum billings in lieu of the Project Manager - Enter project billings into the system for lump sum billingsProvide new vendor set-up information, coordinate payments, and daily issuances as needed

Process payables with an accurate understanding of the sales and use tax requirements for the project

Set up new subcontracts and process subcontractor applications when appropriateReview equipment pre-bill reports and work with Project Manager to ensure accuracyEnsure all project costs (equipment, material, supplies, misc.) are processed

Conduct project cost, other analyses, and reporting for the project team and Manager/Supervisor Project Finance Operations

Prepare specialized reporting for assigned projectsMay assist the project manager in preparing monthly financial projections, including potential cost issues that may impact forecasted costs and profitabilityUnderstand what is impacting the project costs, and identify anything improperly impacting an assigned project

Understand the relevant components of labor cost in the geographic area of the project

Includes union agreement details, benefit programs, and prevailing wage requirementsEnsure new craft labor team members are in the system, team member files are created and maintained, and hours are captured and reported weeklyReview certified payroll reports for accuracy and completeness

Other duties as assigned, including:

Answer general questions on Procore policy or systemRepresent Mortenson's best interests in working with project auditorsAssist with annual and special audits as necessaryAssist with annual physical inventory procedures as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent years of project accounting experienceDetail orientation and organizational skills sufficient to support multiple concurrent projectsConstruction-related business exposure helpful; especially knowledge of percentage of completion accounting and construction contractsQualified candidates will have a minimum of 3 years accounting experience, preferably with construction accountingExperienced supporting a large number of team membersProficiency in working on the computer in Microsoft Office, Email and Calendar systems, and PowerPointIntermediate skills in Microsoft Excel, as well as experience with ERP accounting applicationsStrong working knowledge of basic office equipmentStrong communication skills both written and verbalAbility to be highly organized
