As a Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist, your knowledge of physics and instrumentation, cardiac anatomy and physiology, vascular anatomy and physiology, and general medical terminology is integral. Your Everyday

Perform diagnostic quality echocardiograms with a thorough interrogation of normal and abnormal cardiac and extracardiac anatomy on patients of all ages, from newborn to adult, provide data/results and complete preliminary report with minimal supervision.

Demonstrate proficient technical skills and knowledge in use of all ultrasound/sonography equipment, protocols, procedures, and producing quality imaging.

Prepare and review procedure with patient to educate, ease anxiety, answer questions and address concerns to ensure patient cooperation.

Perform all quantitative measurements from M-Mode, 2D, and Doppler studies.

Assist the healthcare practitioner with transesophageal, epicardial, and intracardiac echocardiographic studies.

Recognize all simple congenital heart defects and most complex congenital heart defects independently.

Perform fetal echocardiograms as required.

Assist with special projects, policies and procedures, and performance improvement as requested.

Maintain inventory of supplies and orders as needed.

Identify and evaluate indications and limitations of exams and procedures, evaluate new equipment, and make recommendations for improvement or actions.

Ensure the safety of the patients and employees.

Order inventory specific supplies needed to perform duties and stock necessary supplies.

Contribute to the team by assisting others without being asked.

The Must-Haves

GENERAL DUTIES

Performs echocardiograms: Prepares the patient for testing, performs the appropriate test, and provides data/results to the cardiologist with minimal supervision.

Performs a diagnostic quality echocardiogram with a thorough interrogation of normal and abnormal cardiac and extracardiac anatomy on patients of all ages, from newborn to adult.

Assists the healthcare practitioner with transesophageal, epicardial, and intracardiac echocardiographic studies.

Recognizes all simple congenital heart defects and most complex congenital heart defects independently.

Performs fetal echocardiograms as required.

Applies organizational skills toward testing of both inpatients as well as outpatients:

Completes a preliminary report on all tests performed for physician review.

Identifies indications and limitations of exams and procedures.

Orders inventory specific supplies needed to perform duties, orders necessary replacements and stocks necessary supplies.

Assists with special projects, policies and procedures, and performance improvement as requested.

Evaluate new equipment, procedures, and make recommendations for improvement.

Stocks linen and supplies. Ensures the room and equipment are clean and ready for use throughout the day.

Knowledge and Quality:

Maintains the necessary hours of continuing medical education per ARDMS and IAC requirements.

Performs and maintains quality control and preventative maintenance of the diagnostic equipment that meets manufacturer’s recommendations.

Engages in quality improvement activities of echocardiography studies in accordance with IAC standards.

Participates and attends in-services pertaining to cardiology.

Research and Precepting Participation:

May research, present, and participate in educational presentations as directed.

May perform and assist with data collection necessary for research projects and performance improvement.

Assists with precepting new staff members under general guidance.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Registered through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a medical sonographer or cardiac sonographer.

American Heart Association, Basic Life Support Health Care Provider.
