Job Summary:

The University of Utah Marketing and Communications Digital team is looking for Junior WordPress Developers to help improve our university client satisfaction and website support through a hands-on WordPress role. This role would troubleshoot bug and site support requests from clients and team members. In general, this person should have a strong understanding of editing sites within the WordPress Admin, finding and fixing bugs, theme conflicts, and minor customization. This role will be responsible for supporting our university clients, handing off the more complex tasks to our team of project managers, designers, and developers.

Responsibilities:

Crafting & refining websites from client content and design mockups within WordPress and our Page Builder.

Providing WordPress web development support via Asana tasks, email, and Microsoft Teams chats.

Troubleshoot and resolve WordPress website bugs/fix tasks.

Proactively reviewing support tasks and identifying issues/concerns which may have not been resolved efficiently and stepping in to find a solution more quickly.

Proactively identifying, recommending, and implementing opportunities to improve web support processes.

Foster a supportive and encouraging atmosphere with campus partners.

Making copy changes to university websites.

Updating minor design and layouts within WordPress and our Page Builder.

Collaborate closely with our design & development team to implement best practices and brand guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). 2 years of experience in web software development or related area.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences:

Experience in building or working with WordPress sites.

Experience with Responsive Design.

Excellent written and communication skills, and the ability to respond quickly to clients and team members.

Ability to take technical lingo and make it understandable to clients.

Ability to handle fast moving tickets within tight timelines and one-off requests involving multiple partners.

Able to be a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through to completion.

A positive and friendly attitude with a willingness to learn our tools and processes.

A very basic understanding of web language structure (HTML, CSS, JS).

Additional Preferences:

Experience working with WordPress themes and plugins.

Design Experience in Adobe/Figma.

Some Copywriting and SEO Knowledge.

Familiar with Web Accessibility and how to make sites more accessible.

Experience with optimizing image and other types of files for the web.

Knowledge of editing HTML, CSS, JS, and PHP.

This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.
