HOW A STORAGE ENGINEER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Responsibilities and DutiesDesign, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade and support various storage and backup platforms and associated management tools.Diagnose and troubleshoot storage systems and other related technologiesAdhere to engineering and architecture standards and participate in technical review meetings as requiredParticipate in the evaluation, deployment, management, and integration of new technologies in alignment with other engineers, architects, and technical service lanesIncident support and participation in on-call rotation during off hours and weekendsCreate and maintain documentation: logical/physical diagrams, run books and other technical engineering documentsConsistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processesOversee the Installation of new storage hardware and software according to standard operating proceduresOversees the updates to hardware, operating systems, and software as needed to provide required functionality and securityEnsures systems are monitored and statistics relevant to capacity, performance, utilization, etc. are collected and regularly reviewedKeeps abreast of current developments in storage and backup technology to assist Federal staff in assessing the future direction of storage and backup technologyWHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED:Required Qualifications and SkillsBS degree and 5+ years of related experience; or equivalent combinationHands on engineering experience with
NetApp
and other storage technologies and conceptsExperience with SAN, NAS and iSCSI storage implementationsExperience with capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environmentsExperience in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup environmentsExperience with data center migrations and storage replication technologiesSenior level experience with design, development, implementation and maintenance of large-scale systems, preferably across multiple hardware platforms and data centersStrong understanding of high availability concepts with practical experience and implementation of key components in storage environmentStrong understanding of fundamental hardware concepts: disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, performance concepts (I/O, paging, swapping, system calls), iSCSI, Fiber Channel, EthernetStrong understanding of essential TCP/IP concepts: TCP, UDP, ICMP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, DNS, NTP, etc.Understanding of security best practices, federal hardening requirements (FISMA, STIG, etc.)CompTIA Security+ or similar for IAT Level II DoD 8570 certificationProficient written and oral communication skillsStrong collaborative attitude and ability to work in a team environmentAbility to take directionDesired Qualifications and SkillsExperience leveraging scripts to audit and enforce configuration standards
