The Energetics and Propulsion Department, which is part of the Mechanical Engineering Directorate, is looking for a Principal Flight Safety System Engineer. This organization is responsible for the design and development of propulsion technology to support the Land Warfare and Air Defense mission area.

Job Summary:

The Principal Flight Safety System Engineer position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team: Requires expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have deep knowledge of project management. Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and ability to identify links and potential impact on projects, programs, or systems.

This position is located in Tucson, Arizona.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

Familiar with developing, reviewing, updating, and approving system verification artifacts and system requirements.

Familiar with electrical circuit design.

Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate issues.

Self-starter and ability to work independently.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

This position is a hybrid role, and the selected applicant will work with the hiring manager to set schedule.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years’ experience with technical engineering background, leading teams in the aerospace or government sector or Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience.

The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

Advanced degree.

10 plus years of directly related experience in battery subsystems design, development, and test.

Specific experience in the thermal and Li-Ion battery manufacturing, design characteristics, safety testing, and managing development and qualification activities.

Ability to perform Power Source trade studies evaluating different electrochemistries and estimate cost and schedule.

Experience in working with and managing thermal and Li-Ion battery suppliers.

Supplier collaboration experience and oversight generating specifications and statements of work (SOW).

Experience in business development and technology road mapping.

Demonstrated success as a team leader.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
