The wage listed in this job posting reflects the increase.NOTE: The recruitment period for this vacancy has been broadened and extended to allow for a larger applicant pool.The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Wildlife Biologist 4 (Federal Subsistence Liaison) located in Anchorage or Juneau!What you will be doing:This position serves as a technical expert and federal subsistence liaison program manager for the Department. The focus of this program is to assure continued state’s rights to manage fish and game resources, which is a critical part of the department’s overall mission.The position serves as the central point from which all information affecting the Divisions of Wildlife Conservation, Subsistence, Sport Fish, and Commercial Fisheries regarding the federal subsistence regulatory process is exchanged, and policy issues are addressed. It requires technical expertise in wildlife and fisheries biology and management as well as an adequate understanding of the federal regulatory process. Specifically, this position coordinates the information received and the requests to appropriate staff within the department; analyzes the implications of this information; oversees the development of a response; implements the response; and develops news releases when appropriate. This may include the development of formal written comments or position papers, compiling technical information, and developing strategy recommendations for consideration by Division Directors, Deputy Commissioner, and Commissioner. The incumbent may provide oral testimony and deliberation with Regional Advisory Councils and the Federal Subsistence Board. This position is responsible for housing the correspondence and documents related to the federal subsistence management program to include regulatory cycles, requests for reconsideration, and special actions related protocols in the ADF&G Federal Subsistence Program Share Point site.Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management;ANDOne year of advanced professional level biologist experience. The required professional biologist work experience is met by service as a Fishery Biologist 3, Wildlife Biologist 3, Habitat Biologist 3, or Fisheries Geneticist 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.Substitution:A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college that includes or is supplemented by the following credit hours will substitute for the degree in a specific field:• at least 24 semester hours (36 quarter hours) in biology, a branch of biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management (excluding courses that focus on agricultural husbandry techniques, human population dynamics, or the design and manipulation of landscapes), of which 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) are upper division courses; and• at least 12 semester hours (16 quarter hours) in any combination of two or more of the following: chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, geology, hydrology, or GIS.Special Note:A valid driver's license is required.This position may be in possession of, or have access to, firearms/ammunition.Who we are looking for:

If you do not have experience with one or more of the traits listed below, simply say so.):Knowledge and experience with Alaska’s fish and/or wildlife and the laws pertaining to them.Knowledge of ANILCA specifically Title 8, and application to State of Alaska fish and wildlife management.Experience with regulatory boards and developing fish and/or wildlife regulations and policy.Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively on complex issues with diverse groups of varying opinions while building and maintaining effective relationships.Excellent written and verbal communication, including experience editing documents, giving public presentations, and explaining controversial wildlife laws, regulations, and policies.Contact Information
