We are growing rapidly with an active research and discovery pipeline. This role will play a strategic part in guiding research and drug discovery programs in the oncology pipeline. We are seeking an innovative and agile individual who brings significant expertise in drug discovery in cancer biology as well as a passion for professional development and peer coaching.YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe primary responsibilities of the Senior Director, Research Oncology are to:Lead multiple drug discovery programs in Research and Early Development (RED) Oncology from target identification through early clinical development;Contribute to and support research strategy in a specific area of scientific expertise pertaining to Cancer Biology;Provide matrixed management and strategic coaching of peers and colleagues in RED Oncology;Support career development and scientific coaching of colleagues in Research Oncology;Collaborate with other R&D functions and support cross-team and cross-site activities;Implement back translational strategies at the interface of drug discovery and clinical development;Contribute to key documentation and presentations for projects moving through internal review stage gates and regulatory submissions;Work across portfolio assets to drive an integrated strategy with indication, MOA, or modality focus;Maintain and extend a network with external partners from academia, contract research organizations, and medical experts;Foster creativity and motivation among scientists;Demonstrate and role model VACC leadership behaviors:Visionary that guides teams in defining outcomes;Catalyst that removes roadblocks to facilitate connections;Architect that shapes a value-creating system;Coach that helps teams learn and build capabilities.WHO YOU AREBayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:Required qualifications:PhD in Cancer Biology or related field;Demonstrated success across multiple phases of oncology drug discovery;Experience with therapies for biomarker-driven selected patient populations;In-depth knowledge of cancer dependency databases;Substantial experience in early-stage research program design and execution;Experience in strategic planning, project leadership, and budget management;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Strong organizational and time-management skills;Desire and capacity to participate in a dynamic research setting;Recognized scientific innovation evidenced by publications and presentations;Applies VACC leadership behaviors;Demonstrates high self-awareness and system awareness;Pro-actively asks for and gives feedback;Demonstrates strategic thinking and business insights;Focuses on outcomes and collaborates with accountability;Co-creates solutions for customers;Acts, learns fast, and evolves;Respects differences and embraces inclusion.Preferred qualifications:PhD in Cancer Biology or related field with a minimum of 12 years of industry experience.YOUR APPLICATIONBayer offers a wide variety of competitive compensation and benefits programs.
