Tri Pointe Connect, the mortgage affiliate of Tri Pointe Homes, is looking for an experienced individual to join our talented group as an Underwriting Team Lead.

Position Highlights:The Underwriting Team Lead will provide leadership and training to the Underwriting Department while continuing to perform underwriting functions as needed to maintain acceptable turn times. Responsibilities to include: ensuring the underwriters are following investor guidelines while meeting/exceeding company standards for quality and accuracy, providing subject matter expertise interpreting regulatory guidelines, mentor/coach new underwriters on the team and handle projects as delegated by the Underwriting Manager and/or Senior Management.

Position Responsibilities:

Provide new hire and on-going training and expertise for the underwriting team.

Assist the Manager in ensuring the team is meeting/exceeding company standards but preserving the investment quality of originated loans, providing service and resources to the branches and mortgage operations’ team members.

Actively assist the Manager with company and/or departmental planning and process improvement efforts.

Provide support and guidance to team members and assist with any questions or problems related to the loan file.

Perform 2nd level reviews as directed by the Manager.

Perform review of certain loan denials and assist in closing issues as necessary.

Ensure agency guidelines are up to date and communicated effectively to team members.

Ensure all internal loan program summaries are followed per investor guidelines through daily use and interpretation.

Assist Manager with reviewing test cases for newly hired underwriters or underwriters obtaining designations for products not yet approved.

Track test cases to ensure inconsistency.

Provide feedback to the Manager on progress of test cases to determine further training needs.

Provide clear, concise and appropriate conditioning of loans when rendering decisions.

Daily pipeline management to include monitoring SLA’s, workload balancing when necessary, end of day reporting, requesting investor priority reviews, assisting in preparing escalation responses, monitor and publishing SLA’s, assigning/monitoring Express Lane loans, and assisting with vacation coverage when needed.

Reviewing and responding to post-closing exceptions to clear investor suspense conditions, reviewing and assessing root cause issues, reporting trending/developing training, opportunities for system enhancements.

Work with outsource team, provide business subject matter expert guidance through the relationship, monitor and manage quality and productivity via reporting.

Mentor and coach operations team members on underwriting deficiencies and calculation errors.

Work collaboratively with all team members (loan officers/consultants, closers, branch managers) to drive quality deals to successful funding.

Perform all other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred.

DE/LAPP designation preferred.

Must have a minimum of 7+ years of mortgage related experience as an underwriter with government and conventional loans, preferably within a builder environment.

3 years of prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred.

Strong knowledge of underwriting guidelines – Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac plus FHA and VA as well as investor-specific guidelines as applicable.

Strong regulatory knowledge, including ECOA, HMDA, RESPA, and other applicable federal or state-specific guidelines.

Thorough knowledge of loan origination systems. Encompass required.
