Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) controllership is a new team within the Corporate Financial Reporting function, which is responsible for technical accounting, mergers and acquisition accounting, consolidation accounting, and external financial reporting.If you have a passion for developing teams, designing and implementing internal controls, and reporting enterprise-wide information under emerging regulatory frameworks, Thermo Fisher Scientific’s ESG controllership function is the team for you.As the
ESG Controller
reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, you will work closely with Legal, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, Supply Chain Operations, and Global Business Services teams to develop a team that is responsible for designing and implementing disclosure controls and procedures over sustainability and ESG topics.Your team will interact with subject matter experts in areas including: climate change, pollution, resource use and circular economy, own workforce, workers in the value chain, affected communities, consumers and end users, business conduct, and others.This role is office-based at our
Waltham, Massachusetts
site, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day per week.What you will do:
Team Leadership
Oversee team members as they assess risk and develop and implement internal controlsOversee team members as they draft external reports in accordance with reporting requirementsServe as the primary liaison with external auditorsCommunicate key internal control reporting decisions to senior leadershipDevelop expertise on ESG trends, frameworks, regulatory requirements to help inform operational plans, reporting philosophies, and metrics
ESG Expertise
Create and deploy training materials for functional teamsDevelop company policies and proceduresInvest time to understand Thermo Fisher’s businesses and industries through collaboration with subject matter experts
How you will get here:Education
Required: Undergraduate degree preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting, or Information SystemsDesired: 6+ years of experience in a large international public accounting firm or corporate internal audit departmentDesired: CPA (or equivalent)Experience
Required: 10+ years of growing in responsibility business and leadership experienceRequired: Experience with complex, multinational enterprisesDesired: Experience with the ESG reporting regimesKnowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to lead the team with effective utilization of information technology systemsProficient verbal and written communication skillsLeader in resourcing talent and diversity, involved in all parts of the hiring and development processAbility to develop well-reasoned, strategic plansCapable of collaborating with diverse global teamsStrong project management skillsAct with integrity and demonstrate strong professional judgmentMaintain a positive attitude and desire for continuous improvementDemonstrate resilience and adaptability to changing prioritiesTravel requirements
