Network Wireless Engineer
who will be responsible for the day-to-day role in designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex computer systems and networks within an organization.The BCIT BDE Network Wireless Engineer provides timely responses to Service Desk trouble tickets and handles related issues. This role completes work request activities submitted via the Service Request System and identifies, diagnoses, and resolves wireless network communication issues. In conjunction with the Network Administrator and Telephony team, the engineer identifies, diagnoses, and resolves network and VoIP issues.Responsibilities include performing wireless RF site surveys, designing and operating an enterprise-class Wi-Fi network spanning multiple buildings, and maintaining, optimizing, and troubleshooting wireless enterprise network services (data, voice, location, security). The engineer configures, administers, installs, and upgrades network infrastructure components and remotely administers and maintains complex TCP/IP networks using routers and switches. Additionally, the role involves creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation related to the network infrastructure, and recommending, testing, scheduling, and implementing upgrades to network infrastructure.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSDesign, integration, testing, installation, and support of the BCIT BDE wireless network infrastructure.Lead wireless network engineering services in support of Customer WAN, LAN, and WLAN data networks.Perform routed/switched network design activities on HP routers and switches, Xirrus Management System (XMS), and Cisco Meraki cloud management system and wireless access points (WAP) for a large enterprise data network.Work with client support technicians to provide solutions for customers' wireless communications requirements and solutions.Investigate, design, plan, and implement physical and logical wireless communications networks.Prepare schematics to define and illustrate wireless network design solutions.Prepare work orders containing instructions to be used by client support technicians to configure network hardware and software.Perform access point/router/switch/network hardware and software upgrades.Configure and administer HP switching devices.Provide proactive monitoring of the network using network management software configuration and troubleshooting tools (Cisco DNAC, Cisco Firepower, Cisco 9800 WLC, Cisco DNAC, Cisco ISE, Cisco Spaces, Cisco Meraki Cloud, SolarWinds, and SNMP).Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to the network infrastructure.Provide capacity planning for internal and external network connections.Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site during regular business hours and as needed.Perform other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:
Have a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline required (equivalent experience may be considered).ANDEXPERIENCE:
Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a senior-level wireless network engineer is required.LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Specialist – Enterprise Wireless Design (ENWLSD) and Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) a plus, Cisco Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) preferred, Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) preferred.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESStrong knowledge of Cisco DNAC, Cisco Firepower, Cisco 9800 WLC, Cisco DNAC, Cisco ISE, Cisco Spaces, Cisco Meraki Cloud and SolarWinds.Strong knowledge of Wi-Fi protocols, including all standards of 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and supporting protocols such as DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, TCP/IP, UDP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, VPN, ACLs, LDAP, etc.Ability to perform Wi-Fi surveys using tools such as Air Magnet.Must possess strong technical and communication skills.Demonstrated ability to apply the concepts and commands required to install, configure, and troubleshoot IT equipment in a multi-protocol district-wide wireless network with centralized and cloud-based control.Must have the ability to act as a liaison with local and field engineering team members and contracted vendors to maintain immediate response to critical requirements and issues impacting school instruction and testing, resulting from monitoring and analysis of current data within the wireless system.Maintains familiarity with wireless security and ensures wireless network security is deployed.Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS.PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONSThe physical abilities, working conditions, and other conditions of employment listed in this document are representative of, but are not intended to provide, an exhaustive list of the requirements for positions in this classification.
