The community you’ll be caring for:

AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites, and a catheterization lab.

The hospital features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop, and on-site fire station.

The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades.

The role you’ll contribute:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Work involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens. Analytical laboratory testing generally requires a moderate to high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in licensed area(s). On-call hours may also be required. Follows laboratory policies and procedures; maintains quality control practices in the Laboratory. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and maintains respectful relationships.

Performs assigned pre-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, including general and analytical equipment maintenance, function checks, inventory control, and specimen collection.

Performs all expected tests and analytical procedures efficiently and accurately, according to established procedures and performance standards.

Performs post-analytical activities related to laboratory testing, reporting results in accordance with established procedures.

Provides orientation and training to new employees and medical technology students as needed.

Provides guidance to technicians and support staff, resolving customer service issues within guidelines.

Follows appropriate safety policies including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling.

Participates in the evaluation of new laboratory techniques and procedures.

May assess competencies according to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

REQUIRED:

In licensure states, Laboratory Licensure in appropriate specialties for the department or location assignment.

In non-licensure states, must hold a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.

Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, biological sciences, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of technical experience.

Technical skills related to laboratory testing, procedures, and processes.

Ability to work independently and adapt to varying priorities.

Ability to maintain equipment/records and perform quality assessment activities.

Ability to educate and train new staff in medical laboratory settings.

Effective communication skills in verbal and written English.

Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
