The Educational Specialist II - Instructional Technology is located in the office of Teaching and Learning and provides direct support to schools, collaborates with curriculum teams to ensure technology is integrated into curriculum, creates and supports the implementation of technology curriculum for grades K-8, facilitates professional development, and supports teacher and staff use of digital resources.

Essential Functions

Works with staff to implement Educational Technology and Computer Science standards across all curriculum areas.Provides direct support to schools in the areas of instructional technology and implementation of curriculum.Assists in the coordination of systemic activities related to school technology programs and keeps abreast of current research and exemplary program practices related to instructional technologies, maker spaces and digital resources for schools.Assists in coordinating grant and partnership activities related to school technology programs.Assists in the development and implementation plans and resources to support the ISTE and MD Computer Science standards.Provides support in the field by coaching and conducting demonstration lessons for teachers to support the integration of technologies.Collaborates with other staff to plan and implement professional development for teachers to ensure a deeper understanding of blended learning, using technology to differentiate and the ability to integrate Educational Technology standards into instruction.Develops, adapts, modifies, and individualizes digital educational materials, resources, techniques, methods and strategies to meet the needs of students within City Schools' curriculum framework.Participates in the training programs offered to increase technical, interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency related to the projects to which assigned.Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies and the professional standards.

Master's Degree in education or related field. Degree must be from an accredited college or university.A valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced Professional certificate.At least three years' classroom or school computer lab teaching experience.Demonstrated ability to utilize digital resources to support the instructional program.Knowledge of current digital resources and trends in classroom technologies.Knowledge of coding, 3D printing, and maker spaces.Knowledge of recognized instructional technology standards and of current best practices in blended learning, instructional technology and online assessments.Demonstrated understanding of adult learning theory.Interpersonal skills that ensure effective teambuilding and understanding of the team's purpose.Skilled in interpreting, understanding and applying data.A commitment to educational equity.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
