Nemours is seeking an Outpatient Lab Lead (Full-Time) to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, Delaware.The Outpatient Specimen Collection Area of the Nemours Hospital for Children-Delaware is seeking an individual to serve in a lead role, working in concert with the supervisor in the coordination of activities and direction of associates providing patient care in the Outpatient Specimen Collection Area. Along with providing hands on support functions within the department, such as patient registration and lab orders preparation, this individual will also be responsible for overseeing the quality of specimen collection as well as assuring exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate has experience in leading a laboratory patient service center, strong command of information systems, such as Epic Care EMR, and an ability to serve as a liaison for patients, family, and health care professionals in the deliverance of outpatient laboratory services.

Primary Functions:

In concert with OSCA Supervisor, coordination of activities and direction for associates providing patient care in the Outpatient Specimen Collection Area (OSCA).

Lead of Phlebotomists & Office Coordinators-Lab, working in Outpatient Specimen Collection Area; responsible for overseeing quality of specimen collection as well as customer service.

Supports all functions in Outpatient Specimen Collection Area, including those of office Coordinators - Lab and Phlebotomists.

Essential Functions:

Performs the functions of phlebotomist and/or Office Coordinator in OSCA as determined by OSCA Supervisor or other Clinical laboratory leader.

Ensure exceptional service delivery to all customers of the Outpatient Specimen Collection Area. Customers include (but not limited to) patient, family, and healthcare provider. This includes managing service recovery efforts and managing all aspects of Patient Satisfaction for OSCA.

Train associates in performance of pediatric phlebotomy, sweat test collection, and any other assigned specimen collection activities.

Provide supervision to those who coordinate and provide outpatient phlebotomy service. This includes: oversight of competency and competency assessment, supporting supervisor in maintaining staff schedules, staff rounding, mentoring and coaching. Ensure Nemours Standards of Behavior are upheld by all associates.

Perform OSCA related tasks using EPIC, especially release of orders, verification of orders, patient check-in and patient registration tasks.

Utilize the hospital and laboratory information systems for the efficient delivery of outpatient phlebotomy service, troubleshooting issues, and communications regarding laboratory services.

Collaborate with others in the lab to provide technical support to associates within the Outpatient Specimen Collection area. Collaborate in the development and maintenance of procedures and or guides related to the operations of the department.

Utilize the various organizational tools; for example, EMR, hospital and laboratory information systems, as needed to assist in the gathering, reporting and distribution of pertinent laboratory data as requested.

Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of Nemours. Participates in continuous Improvement activities.

Follows all laboratory and hospital safety policies (including, but not limited to chemical safety, infection control, etc.). Must be able to perform functions using personal protective equipment and barrier protection, such as disposable gloves, laboratory coats, shields, goggles, etc.

Provide oversight in inventory control, supply ordering, and expiration date monitoring. Assure purchasing within the department remains within budget.

Job Requirements:

High School Diploma required. Specialized (1 year of training beyond high school).

Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' experience required.

Requires experience in pediatric phlebotomy.

Helpful to have experience in an outpatient laboratory setting, especially related to hospital laboratory specimen collection.
