We are currently seeking a GI Lab Technician to join our GI Lab team. This part-time role will primarily work on-site, 8-hour shifts (primarily Days, some Evening hours).

SUMMARY

Within the context of the Hennepin County Medical Center Patient and Family Centered Care Model, and under the direct RN supervision, the GI Technician will perform clinical care duties involving assigned patients. Clerical duties are also included for EHR and Probation activities as well as scheduling cases and coordinating and communicating information.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Escorts patients on foot or transports patients on carts or wheelchairs to and from procedures.

Procures and stocks equipment and supplies and ensures that equipment is clean and operable.

Observes patients' physical condition and communicates any changes or pertinent information related to their health to the RN.

Ability to set-up, clean, and process scopes and other equipment for all GI scheduled procedures.

Assists RN and MD as specified prior to, during, and post procedure with equipment and patient care needs.

Takes and records patients' vital signs per nursing protocol or physicians' order.

Notes and carries out physicians' and nurses' orders providing needed assistance in performing endoscopic procedures.

Collects and labels specimens appropriately.

Conducts POC testing.

Gathers equipment for cleaning and sterilization.

Attends to the cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of endoscopes and related equipment.

Maintains work area in a neat orderly manner.

Assists in the monitoring of the patient through the procedure.

Provides age and culturally appropriate care.

Orients and mentors new staff members.

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Previous experience in a patient care setting preferred.

Previous experience as an endoscopy tech preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Endoscopy certified preferred.

Previous GI experience preferred.

License/Certifications

Current Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
