Do you enjoy working with new technologies on agile development teams?
SimonComputing is seeking a Full Stack Developer with strong software development, cloud, and Agile experience. You'll provide Agile development and maintenance support for a mission-critical program at the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
This is a modernization project and you'll work with a team of developers on the following activities:
Discovery:
Learn the existing system inside and out. This includes understanding the requirements, existing architecture, database design, and code. It also includes understanding how to maintain and deploy the application. Be willing to learn existing technology as part of the process of discovery.
Maintenance:
We'll take over the existing system from the outgoing team. We'll need to assess its current state, harden it to a point where we can easily maintain it, and then keep it running.
Define and Plan the Target Architecture:
Review the full spectrum of possible tools to use for modernizing the existing system.
Implement the Modernization Plan:
As part of the architecture team, you'll develop the core components of the architecture and establish templates for services and user interface applications.
Position requires US citizenship.
Responsibilities:
Support all aspects of software development (designing, coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining products).
Collaborate with software developers, analysts, and other project team members using Agile SCRUM methodology to deliver features that enhance system capabilities and further DOC's mission.
Translate customer needs into user stories and deliver working capabilities at the conclusion of each sprint.
Participate and/or lead sprint demonstrations and facilitate implementation of agreed-upon ideas identified at retrospectives.
Effectively communicate technical challenges, options considered, and the recommended solution to senior leaders.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 4 years work experience in software development.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
Proficiency in SnowFlake, Azure Cloud Environment, and Microsoft Development tools is highly desirable.
Proficiency and knowledge of the following: TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, SpringBoot, SQL.
Preferred experience with Jira or a similar scrum management tool.
Excellent communication skills.
Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain clearance.
Our Technology Stack:
We have focused our capabilities on open standards, products, and tools that can operate across multiple platforms. This allows us to target products for a larger audience. It also minimizes the impact of changes in the industry making it easier to maintain applications over the long term.
Tools that we use include:
React, Material UI, Java, Javascript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, Spring Framework, JSON/REST services, Maven, Git/GitLab/GitHub, Jira, Confluence, Eclipse, Visual Studio Code, Jenkins, SonarQube, Amazon Web Services, Python.
About SimonComputing, Inc.:
We are dedicated to simplifying the process of building software. We draw upon multiple agile practices including Scrum, Extreme Programming, Lean Software, and Google Venture's Design Sprint. We work to minimize the meetings and documentation so that our developers can focus on designing and coding.
With our approach, we specialize in developing technically challenging applications that serve clients in the public and private sectors.
Benefits:
Free medical, dental, and vision insurance with comprehensive coverage.
Competitive salaries.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
Disability and life insurance.
401(k) retirement plan.
Paid leave (holiday, sick, and vacation).
Employee referral bonuses.
529 college savings plan.
Education reimbursements.
Fun team-building events.
SimonComputing, Inc. is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer.
Work Location:
We anticipate that most of the time you will be working from home. At the beginning of the project, we may have a period of time in the office to allow the team to get to know each other. This will be a few weeks. After that the client may want us to come into the office periodically. This is a new project and we have not established a cadence for in-person meetings yet.
