ABA employees are eligible to apply for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).Job Summary/General Purpose of JobResponsible for the day-to-day oversight of accounting functions related to grants, financial reporting, and recordkeeping of authorized grant spend against approved grants.Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)Manages a team of professionals in the maintenance of grant accounting records, and the preparation of all relevant reporting to donors such as USAID, or other similarly situated groups.Maintains currency with and compliance with all federal regulations such as OMB Circulars applicable to grants and cooperative agreements.Assists in the preparation for and actual negotiations of Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreement [NICRA] and methodologies.Accountable for assisting the Director in monthly, quarterly, and annual closings and reporting of results to the appropriate ABA and donor financial entities. Leads grant close outs at the conclusion of the grants and provides all required reporting.Leads or directs the completion of complex financial analyses and reporting to support management initiatives and grant proposals; responds to donor/governmental inquiries, and the provision of actionable information for management.Provides work direction and establishes priorities to ensure the timely and accurate completion of accounting responsibilities to assigned staff.Leads annual and grantor defined audits and prepares schedules for external validation.Allocates appropriate resources and staffing to achieve mission-critical objectives and activities in optimization of operational excellence and support to end-user customers.Oversees and is accountable for the accurate entry of standard and monthly grant accounting activities, including A/P and A/R activities.Reviews and approves international payment requests. Reviews and approves reimbursement, advance, and payment requests from/to funders.Responsible for leading relevant collection activities to ensure timely receipt of revenue due the ABA.Functions as the primary interface with internal and external customers on matters related to specific grant financial matters.Monitors and ensures that all appropriate controls and accounting practices are adhered to and are in compliance with appropriate guidelines, policies, and regulations.Provides leadership, coaching, counseling, performance feedback, and, where appropriate, applies discipline to assigned staff.Performs other related duties as required.Required Education, Qualifications, ExperiencePossession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.At least five years grant accounting experience in a not-for-profit, NGO, association, and/or governmental organization.Preferred Education, Qualifications, ExperiencePossession of a CPA.Prior experience supervising a group of accounting professionals.Previous experience in international grant accounting.Physical RequirementsTypical office work environment.Extent of Travel Required in the JobAs a normal course of business, this job will typically require travel less than 10% of the time.The American Bar Association is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
