Senior Engineer

position in the Operations Support and Pipelines group in the Engineering Department.Apply soon as the first round of applications will be reviewed when a suitable applicant pool is obtained.The Position:Coordinates projects, prepares and reviews designs, acts as project manager for large complex construction projects, makes decisions on engineering issues, and supervises the work of engineering personnel.The ideal candidate

will help lead a dynamic team of Engineers and have hands-on water and wastewater design and construction management experience with a desire to supervise and mentor lower-level Engineers. Senior Engineers serve as project managers and are challenged by complex design and construction projects related to capital improvement projects.SUMMARY OF DUTIES:Act as Project Manager for large complex planning, design, and construction projects.Prepare and review designs submitted by consultants, developers, and other entities for compliance with standards.Prepare and review specifications and cost estimates.Review shop drawings and other construction submittals for compliance with the approved plans and specifications.Prepare progress estimates and recommend change orders/variances.Provide technical support for water, sewer, and recycled water system operational requirements.Maintain a variety of records and prepare correspondence and reports in a professional manner complying with District standards.Prepare agenda items and supporting material for Committee and Board action.Prepare Requests for Proposals for retaining consultants on engineering and planning projects.Coordinate projects and maintain good relationships with representatives from other water agencies, city, county, regulatory agencies, and landowners.Review work, give instruction, and evaluate performance of assigned personnel on a periodic basis.May supervise lower-level staff. May participate in the selection, counseling, and training of employees.Assume the duties of the Engineering Manager as required.Operate personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, scheduling, email, internet, and database software.Develop and maintain good relationships with District staff from the Departments of Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance. Lead interdepartmental teams when coordinating project tasks.California Government Code declares that all public employees are Disaster Service Workers subject to such disaster service activities. Perform the duties and activities of a Disaster Service Worker during disaster and emergency events as assigned.Perform the duties of chair or team member of engineering technical teams, e.g., teams related to IRWD standard drawings, IRWD standard specifications, contractor evaluations, as assigned.Comply with District safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.Responsible for all other work-related duties.QUALIFICATIONS:Education:A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering or related engineering field. A master’s degree in civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering or a related field is preferred. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required.Experience:Seven (7) years of engineering experience is required.Supervisory experience is highly desirable.License/Certifications Required:A valid Class 'C' California Driver's License is required.Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California is required.
