Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field and 7 years of progressive experience as Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT) or Associate's Degree and 9 years at level of Radiation Therapist I, II or equivalent.Licensure as a Medical Radiologic Technologist by the Texas Medical Board.Must have passed the registry exam as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT).BLS certification required.MRI training preferred, but not required.Job DutiesThis position works under general supervision of Chief Radiation Therapist to provide radiotherapy treatments as prescribed by the physicians to adult and pediatric populations.Operates a variety of cutting-edge treatment machines to deliver prescribed treatment dose.Prepares and educates patients for radiotherapy; administers advanced and adaptive radiotherapy treatment and monitors patient separation from complex treatment machine.Prepares treatment room and fabricates immobilization/treatment devices.Coordinates patient scheduling and retrieval of patient records.Assures radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.Tracks, records, and compiles all clinical research data of patients following departmental and IRB policies.Follows and participates in development of program's policies, procedures, and quality assurance methods.Discusses technical problems with faculty and staff to suggest corrections and/or solutions.Consults with supervisor or physician concerning treatment.May perform computer driven dosimetry and all related treatment plan calculations.Assists in commissioning, calibration, quality assurance, and physical measurements as appropriate for system accuracy.May participate in call duties for non-emergent and emergent clinical needs as assigned.Actively engages in teaching, supervising, and evaluation of students in the Radiation Therapy program.Performs orientation of new employees, not limited to therapists.Demonstrates effective leadership performance in the following areas:Mentorship of Radiation Therapy I and II in daily treatment operations.Provides immediate feedback to Chief Therapist Supervisor of specific work area or staff for any workflow or staff concerns.Conducts daily or weekly huddles with assigned team.Compliance checks on department, documentation and billing by Therapy staff.Adequate time slots management provided for daily treatments.Anticipation and resolution of machine coverage issues.Aptitude to manage patient throughput with a pace consistent to the daily schedule.Skill to meet special scheduling request/needs for patients without compromising the schedules of other patients.Participates and provides input at meetings on improvements or changes.Effective time management of self and team members assigned to machines.Input on staffing models and/or weekly schedules & assists Chief Therapists with daily staffing coverage plans.May serve as Lead Machinist Therapist.Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesWork requires use of considerable judgment in application for radiotherapy on complex and cutting edge treatment machines, practices and policies to work problems, organization and administration of clinical activities.Ability to ensure adherence to policies and procedures of university such as FLSA, salary guidelines, accounting regulations, and internal controls policy.Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of internal and external contacts.Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.Excellent organizational and project management skills.Working ConditionsWork is performed primarily by the linac machines in the therapy console area.To learn more about the benefits UT Southwestern offers visit
