Position Highlights:Schedule:

Work 12-hour shifts on Fridays and Saturdays (variable daytime hours), and on-call for 12 hours on Sundays.Status:

.6 FTE - part-time.Compensation:

All hours worked will be paid at time and a half. On-Call hours will be paid at $2.50 per hour. Call back is paid at time and a half.Benefits:

Those hired into the Weekend Cadre Program will make a 12-month commitment to the Program. The Weekend Cadre will commit to working 48 out of 52 weekends per year, with one of the four weekends off being an OakLeaf Surgical recognized holiday weekend, and the other three out of the four weekends must be a non-holiday weekend.

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technologist is an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedureScrubs, gowns, and glovesOpens sterile supplies and sets up sterile table with instruments, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedureAnticipates additional supplies needed during the procedureKeeps accurate records throughout the procedure and communicates them to circulatorProperly cares for specimensHolds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeonSponges or suctions operative siteApplies electrocautery to clamps on bleedersCuts suture material as directed by the surgeonConnects drains to suction apparatusPrepares and applies sterile dressingPerforms appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closedGowns and gloves surgeon and assistantsHelps in draping sterile fieldPasses instruments to surgeon during procedureMaintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedureCleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilizationAssists other members of team with terminal cleaning of roomAssists in prepping room for the next patientRegular and prompt work-site attendancePerforms other duties as they are assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:

Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.Degree from an accredited Surgical Technologist programSurgical Technologist certification preferredFive (5) or more years' experience as a Surgical Technologist in a hospital environment is requiredBLS certification is required upon hireWillingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancementIs aware of professional standards and performs in accordance with themAbility to relate and work effectively with othersDemonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
