Inova's Joint Replacement Center

(located at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital) is the largest program of its kind in the mid-Atlantic region. It is nationally accredited and certified by The Joint Commission, earning a Gold Seal of Approval for outstanding care in joint replacement procedures. Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is one of only six programs in Virginia to earn the certification for hip and knee replacements, and has also been designated by United Healthcare as a Center of Excellence for Joint Replacement.

Each year we perform over two thousand hip, knee, shoulder, and ankle replacements, with excellent patient outcomes and satisfaction scores. Our joint replacement specialists perform ultra-precise, minimally invasive procedures using the most advanced computer-assisted surgical navigation system. As a Joint Unit Registered Nurse, successful candidate will:Perform comprehensive assessments by interpreting multiple, sometimes conflicting, data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.Formulate individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice.Support and empower patients/families as they progress through the healthcare continuum from health promotion to end of life decisions.Advocate for patients' rights from the patient/family perspective and provide counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues.Anticipate ethical, spiritual and cultural needs while intervening to maximize patient outcomes. Coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning.Make clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members.Document all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assist healthcare team members with documentation.Evaluate the outcomes of documentation and contribute to performance improvement initiatives related to documentation.Provide validation of clinical decisions for other staff members and seek validation from others for complex patients or unfamiliar situations.Collaborate with the healthcare team and lead other disciplines to meet desired outcomes. Mentor staff in understanding and advocating for the importance of utilizing evidence based care initiatives in nursing practice.

RequirementsOne year minimum of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting.Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Associates Degree candidates must obtain BSN within five years of employment.BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification required through the American Heart Association.RN license or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia as an RN.Proficient in English, strong written and verbal communication skills.Proficient computer skills required.
