Demonstrates expertise and responsibility for daily workload. Coordinates the oversight of the laboratory inspections for the College of American Pathologists, DNV, OSHA, and State of Iowa accreditation processes. Responsible for implementation, validation, and approval of new equipment, new procedures, and instrumentation for the Medical Laboratory Department; Coordinates the Safety Officer duties as well as the supplies and reagent orders with UPH Supply departments and vendors.Why UnityPoint Health?

Patient Care:Completes daily workload and patient testing in the laboratory. Promptly troubleshoots any equipment malfunctions and problems.Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgments, and maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of any test or instrument, and equipment recalls from the FDA or the vendor.Identifies and coordinates the requirements for the preventative and required maintenance for all laboratory equipment and instruments in the Medical Laboratory Department related but not limited to CAP Requirements, DNV Requirements, OSHA requirements, and State of Iowa requirements.Provides continuing education and procedural changes/updates for staff and medical technology students.Technical Coordination:Coordinates and completes documentation to assure the Medical Laboratory is inspection ready at all times. Maintains and reviews the current department policy and procedures for accuracy and required changes according to the instrument/reagent vendor instructions.Responsible for the Laboratory Safety Officer assignments, including the location and completion of action plans for Eye Wash and Shower checks, SDS updates, and maintenance records for all equipment currently assigned with the BioMedical Department.Collaborates with the Lawson requestors, UPH Supply Department, vendors, and the Technical Lab Manager to develop a process for an organized and cost effective supply ordering process.Represents the Medical Laboratory on any UPH initiatives including being a member of any Value Analysis Team Council or work group.Department Support:Ensures all vendors and service personnel are registered in Rep Tracks per policy.Responds to any RL or complaint that results from instrument malfunction or inaccurate QA processes.Collaborates with the Laboratory IT team to ensure the interfaces for testing are set up, tested, and approved prior to a go live with any instrument or equipment.Coordinates the analysis of costs and billing charges associated with patient testing, either current or annual review of charges, with the Laboratory Technical and Outreach Managers and Laboratory Director.Qualifications

Minimum RequirementsIdentify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.Preferred or SpecializedNot required to perform the essential functions of the position.Education:Baccalaureate degree with major in Medical Technology or related science.Experience:3-5 years as a working MT in a Medical Laboratory.License(s)/Certification(s):Certification as a MT (ASCP) or the National Certification Agency.Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.Multicultural sensitivity.Microsoft Office - basic computer skills.Customer/patient focused.Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making collaborative decisions.Knowledge and experience in EXCEL 2010 Spreadsheets preferred.Knowledge and experience in PowerPoint preferred.Knowledge and experience in Lawson and Sunquest programs preferred.Other:Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.Area of Interest:
