Job Description - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - Jail Health (7 days on/off; Generous Bonus Pay!) Schedule will be dependent on the FTE level of the selected candidates (0.7 – 1.0 FTE) and will typically consist of

10-hour shifts ,

either 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM or 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 7 days on followed by 7 days off.

(On call physician available by phone during non-business hours).

The pay structure includes a competitive hourly base rate as well as a

generous bonus for evening, night and weekend hours.ResponsibilitiesInitial medical assessment of adult patients in intake at the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center (ADC). Initial medical assessment includes evaluation of medical stability/appropriateness for jail housing, evaluation of any relevant acute and chronic medical conditions, medication reconciliation, initiating appropriate medical treatment plan.Responding to emergency situations that arise in the ADC and initiating emergency care in collaboration with nursing staff.Complete accurate and timely documentation of observations, interventions, plan of care, referrals and follow-up.Order, conduct, and interpret diagnostic tests, therapeutic treatments; may prescribe, administer and dispense therapeutic devices and medications.Perform simple bedside procedures such as incision and drainage after appropriate training.Respond timely to in-basket, forms, email, and paging communication regarding patient care.May be asked to contribute to ongoing medical and nursing staff teaching programs.May be asked participate in quality improvement projects within the department.Work with nursing team related to management of chronic conditions and safe discharge planning.Adhere to productivity standards established by the department.Work closely with interdisciplinary teams to provide patient-centered care.Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, fellow employees with HHS, and Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.Provide education and counseling that is research-based and client-centered.Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in Nursing or in Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program.Current license (or eligibility) to practice as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Minnesota.Certification in the area of specialization by an agency authorized to certify professional nurses in Advanced Practice.If Nurse Practitioner, FNP or AGNP required.Knowledge of electronic medical documentation software/systems.Experience working with a diverse and complex patient population.Preferred Qualifications2-3 years experience as an NP or PA.Experience in urgent care and/or ED setting.Experience working with patients who have substance use disorders as well as pharmacologic management of substance use disorder and withdrawal.Experience working with patients who are or who have been incarcerated.Hennepin Healthcare is one of the few organizations in the Twin Cities with an Advanced Practice Professional Center dedicated to the growth and support of APPs.
