Postdoctoral AssociateRequired Qualifications:

(as evidenced by an attached resume)Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with material structural characterization techniques such as X-ray scattering (SAXS, WAXS, XRD, or Reflectivity) and/or Electron microscopy (SEM, cryo-SEM, TEM, cryo-TEM), including corresponding sample preparation for TEM and SEM (i.e., cryo-microtomography). Experience with thermo-mechanical measurements (TGA, DMA, Rheology, or Viscometry), tensile and impact toughness measurements, and/or spectroscopic characterization (FTIR, NMR, Raman). Experience with biomaterials, biopolymers, RT-PCR, and/or cell culture. Experience with chemical synthesis and/or materials compounding, extrusion, or 3-D printing. Familiarity with computational modeling/implementation of AI in data structures. Soft skills to be assessed upon interview: Excellent oral and written communication skills.Brief Description of Duties:The Postdoctoral Associate will work together with the Principal Investigator in executing the research mission of the laboratory. They will assist in mentoring graduate, undergraduate, or pre-college students. They will present experimental results to the research team and collaborators, as well as at national (and international) conferences, and will publish research in peer-reviewed journals.The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments for investigation of biopolymer structure and function, which may include mastering cryo electron microscopy, X-ray scattering, spectroscopy, rheological and thermal characterization, and microbial characterization (RT-PCR, culture, etc).Qualify writing proposals and conducting experiments on instrumentation at the BNL-NSLII and CFN facilities.Acquire and analyze data, including data obtained at other facilities.Familiarize with the different computational models employed in data analysis and interpretation.Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or oral presentations. May also assist in grant writing and presentations for conferences.Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.Other duties as assigned, which may include attending scientific conferences and meetings.Special Notes:The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation.
