LifeShare Blood Center is seeking a

Medical Technologist

to join our immunohematology reference laboratory (IRL) team. The Med Tech will be responsible for specimen processing, testing, and reporting in accordance with our quality control policies and CLIA regulations.

Under moderate supervision, the Med Tech will: perform routine serological testing (blood typing, antibody screening, antibody identification, antigen typing, and compatibility testing), evaluate and interpret results, complete documentation, coordinate as needed with LifeShare’s other laboratories, communicate with requesting facility to assist with appropriate transfusion therapy, participate in Quality Assurance activities (quality control testing, recognize and report deviations from SOPs), maintain equipment, troubleshoot unexpected testing problems or equipment malfunctions, and perform proficiency testing.

Beginning rate of pay is $28.00 – 32.00/hr, commensurate with experience. QualificationsKNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related scientific field, or equivalent work experience

MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification required

Current CLS licensure, or license eligible by LA State Board of Medical Examiners

At least 2 years of blood banking experience preferred

Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient/donor information at all times

Ability to work effectively under stressful situations

Must be dependable, punctual and have effective communication skills.

Must demonstrate a positive approach toward customers and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally performed in a laboratory setting.

Must be able to perform duties which require standing or bending for long periods of time without relief.

Must be able to work irregular hours, often in excess of 8 hours per day, week-ends and holidays.

Must be able to be "on call" on a regular basis and to return to work when required.

Must be able to work with laboratory equipment, needles, scissors, blood bags, human blood, and collection equipment.

Work involves potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products.
