Our Strategic Sourcing & Real Estate (SSRE) department is pivotal to our success, acting as trusted business advisors with deep expertise that drives The Hartford's business objectives and delivers exceptional customer experiences. We collaborate closely with our customers to positively impact business strategy and optimize third-party usage to meet enterprise and business unit goals.

As the Director of Category Management, you will develop, monitor, and manage category strategies for Medical Claim categories of spend. This individual contributor role involves directing and executing strategic sourcing strategies, developing best practices, negotiating contracts, and managing initiatives to enhance supplier quality, contract quality, cost-effectiveness, service levels, coordination, delivery, pricing, lead-times, payment, and risk compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of assigned spend, working within an agile delivery approach alongside a sourcing delivery team.
  • Manage all suppliers within the assigned category, driving standards and best practices.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business and finance leaders, defining best practices, introducing demand and supply-side opportunities, and setting targets.
  • Lead end-to-end sourcing events for major initiatives and significant vendor relationships.
  • Manage strategic category supplier relations, seeking growth or revision opportunities.
  • Draft contracts that meet Hartford's quality standards for business and legal protections and risk mitigation.
  • Engage with customers to ensure high service standards.
  • Ensure the quality of contract data entered into the system.
  • Collaborate with various groups within or supporting the Claim organization.


This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT or Morristown, NJ office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a corporate sourcing and procurement function, including sourcing and negotiating agreements of varying complexity, scope, and value.
  • Experience in the insurance industry and/or with the Claim spend category.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic sourcing processes, analyze, draft, and negotiate contract terms.
  • Strong packaging and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex pricing models.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across all corporate levels.
  • Self-motivated, able to work within an agile team environment.
  • Ability to apply management theory and principles in planning, organizing, and integrating work.
  • Experience with Continuous Improvement or Six Sigma methodology.
  • High level of creativity, with the ability to challenge conventional thinking.
  • Experience with Coupa (or Ariba) is strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; JD, Master's degree, or certified purchasing manager preferred.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, up to ~10% of the time.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$115,840 - $173,760
