The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for managing the financial operations of Boys and Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska (BGCSAK). The CFO will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on company operations, helping the Organization analyze, strategize, and grow its financial position. This seasoned strategist understands current accounting practices and trends and has experience adapting to change. As a member of leadership, the CFO will be comfortable in an executive role that requires teamwork and clear and effective communication skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, develop, and execute the financial strategy for BGCSAK, covering near-term, short-term, and long-term goals
  • Collaborate with the COO, under the direction of the CEO, to develop the organization’s strategic plan
  • Monitor business performance using tracking tools and key performance indicators. Implement corrective measures as needed and prepare detailed reports for the Board of Directors, management team, and the organization, as required
  • Identify investment opportunities and additional non-donation revenue sources
  • Prepare and maintain a comprehensive annual budget for each department to effectively manage expenses, cash flow, and the allocation of grant awards
  • Work with department heads and the grants team to develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information, and ensure compliance with contracts and grants, including accurate and timely reporting
  • Analyze organizational financial data and create models to project future financial conditions
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process improvement across the organization
  • Perform risk management by analyzing organizational liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage the capital structure
  • Oversee and manage the finance department to ensure efficient operations, accurate financial reporting, and adherence to budgetary goals. Strive to enhance departmental performance, improve financial processes, and support the organization's strategic objectives
  • Review, implement, and occasionally develop accounting procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards. Focus on streamlining processes, improving financial reporting, and supporting organizational goals through effective accounting practices
  • Plan, oversee, and execute the annual financial audit to ensure thorough and accurate evaluation of the organization’s financial health. Work to identify areas for improvement, enhance financial transparency, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations
  • Prepare tax documentation to ensure timely and accurate submission in compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations. Aim to optimize tax efficiency, minimize potential liabilities, and support the organization’s financial integrity
  • Oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities such as the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Internal Revenue Service, and state attorney general requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and or ability required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business accounting, economics, or finance
  • Minimum of (7) seven years of experience, with a demonstrated history of leadership and organizational advancement
  • Experience in managing annual budgets in excess of $10M
  • Excellent executive leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and tax planning
  • Previous experience with AccuFund or demonstrated advanced aptitude with accounting software

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree or (5) five years equivalent experience in accounting, business accounting, economics, or finance
  • Experience in non-profit accounting and fundraising
  • Professional certification with preference for a Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Financial Analyst, or Certified Management Accountant

  • Sedentary Work: This position primarily involves sitting for extended periods while working at a computer, participating in meetings, and performing other office tasks.

  • Mobility: The role requires the ability to move within the office environment, including sitting, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting files or office supplies (up to 15 pounds).
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required for business meetings, conferences, or site visits. This may involve air travel, extended periods of sitting, and managing personal luggage.
  • Cognitive and Mental Demands: The role requires sustained mental focus, attention to detail, and the ability to handle stress, make complex decisions, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This role mainly operates in a professional office environment, with occasional exposure to other work settings like conference rooms or off-site locations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. It may be necessary for the employee to use their personal vehicle to attend meetings outside of the office or to complete company business.
