Position Summary

The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive risk management strategy to safeguard the bank's assets, reputation, and regulatory standing. This role involves leading the risk function of the bank, collaborating with executive leadership, and ensuring that all risks are identified, assessed, and mitigated in alignment with the bank's objectives.

What You'll Do

As EVP/Chief Risk Officer of Republic Bank of Chicago, you may provide expertise and leadership with the following activities including but not limited to:

  1. Risk Management Strategy: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive risk management framework that aligns with the bank's strategic goals and regulatory requirements.
  2. Risk Identification and Assessment: Identify, assess, and monitor all forms of risk, including credit, operational, market, liquidity, compliance, and reputational risks. Conduct regular risk assessments and stress testing.
  3. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the bank's compliance with all applicable banking laws, regulations, and guidelines. Liaise with regulatory bodies and manage all regulatory examinations and audits.
  4. Policy Development: Establish and enforce risk management policies, procedures, and controls. Regularly review and update policies to reflect changes in the risk environment.
  5. Reporting: Provide regular reports to the executive team and Board of Directors on the bank's risk profile, emerging risks, and risk mitigation efforts. Offer insights and recommendations for risk management improvements.
  6. Leadership: Lead and mentor the AML, BSA, Compliance, and Information Security teams, fostering a culture of risk awareness and accountability throughout the organization. Collaborate with other departments to ensure a cohesive approach to risk management.
  7. Risk Appetite: Work with the executive team to define the bank's risk appetite and ensure that it is consistently applied across all business activities.
  8. Incident Response: Oversee the bank's response to any significant risk events, including investigations, reporting, and remediation efforts.
  9. Stakeholder Communication: Communicate risk-related issues to internal and external stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, regulators, and auditors.

Who You Are

  1. An experienced leader with a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred for this role.
  2. Brings over 10 years of experience in risk management, including a minimum of 5 years in a leadership position within the banking or financial services industry.
  3. Possesses valuable expertise in compliance, BSA (Bank Secrecy Act), AML (Anti-Money Laundering), and Information Security, making them well-equipped to handle complex risk challenges.
  4. Demonstrates a deep understanding of risk management principles, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices within the banking sector.
  5. Highly analytical, with a proven ability to identify, assess, and effectively mitigate risks, ensuring the stability and security of operations.
  6. Excellent communicator with strong presentation skills, capable of clearly conveying complex risk concepts to diverse audiences, including senior management and stakeholders.
  7. Proven track record in leadership and team management, inspiring and motivating high-performing teams to achieve exceptional results.
  8. Adept at solving problems and making sound decisions under pressure, ensuring swift and effective responses to emerging risks.
