Job Summary: Habitat KC is looking for an experienced human resources leader who will be responsible for developing HR strategies, building out a people strategy, overseeing HR operations and ensuring compliance. This role supports team members, leads HR initiatives, and provides guidance. Strong leadership, effective communication, business strategy, attention to detail, problem solving, and organizational skills are essential for success in this role.

The Director of People and Culture originates and leads human resources practices, processes and objectives that will provide a high performance, team member-oriented culture that emphasizes engagement and productivity. Recruitment of talent for the ongoing development of a superior workforce is a primary objective for this role. This key leadership role serves as a trusted advisor to team members, managers, and senior leaders across all departments (Homeowner Services, Construction, Community Engagement, ReStore and Finance) thus building strong working relationships is critical for success.

Scope of Role
  • Collaborate with senior management and organization leaders to build a culture that is team member-centric and fosters trust, inclusion, retention and high-performance
  • Build out a People Strategy including Leadership development, Policies and Processes, Talent Management and Acquisition, Compensation and Evaluation, Team Member engagement, and Equity
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Build, lead and execute core HR processes delivering excellence in program administration, compliance, and compensation and benefits
  • Manage an equal opportunity recruitment process to meet staffing needs and ensure that the best qualified, talented employees are hired timely and efficiently
  • Provide oversight of payroll function
  • Serve as Plan Administrator for retirement plans ensuring contemporary approach, accuracy of data, and completion of annual audit activities
  • Build strong working relationships with senior leaders and managers providing expert level advice to solve people problems
  • Drive continuous leadership learning with various strategies including annual management training
  • Coordinate employee communication strategies such as All Team Meetings, Employee Roundtables, and Leadership Roundtables
  • Drive a market approach to compensation providing insight, data and planning
  • Manage the annual health & welfare planning including vendor relationships, open enrollment and employee communication
  • Build and communicate an annual Affirmative Action Plan working to close gaps where needed
  • Act as a business leader to drive the talent and culture agenda at the department or group level; partner with business leaders to implement and measure the outputs of the talent strategy
  • Proactively stay on top of market and industry talent trends and best practices to evolve talent strategies
  • Identify key talent trends and insights by taking a data-driven approach (e.g., synthesizing HR data and analytics against external best practices) to develop custom strategies and tactics that drive the right business outcomes

  • Use effective storytelling to consult with leaders on performance and outcomes and to ensure programs are meeting expected outcomes for the business and conveying an intended story
  • Serve as a coach and trusted advisor, providing coaching and career development to the divisions and its leaders and influence them to achieve tangible business outcomes
  • Partner with HFHI to advance HR initiatives and measure outcomes for the business
  • Be an active advocate of change through fostering proper change management practices
  • Serve as a champion for Diversity and Inclusion, partnering with business leaders to implement and monitor the success of key DE&I initiatives
  • Lead talent reviews and succession planning efforts with senior leadership


Requirements

Required skills and qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the human resources field.
  • Understanding of state and federal employment regulations.
  • Understanding of personnel and compliance records management.
  • Strong analytical and problems solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred skills and qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field - experience considered.
  • 5+ years of human resource experience.
  • Experience with HRMS/HRIS systems, Paylocity experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook)
  • Experience managing a team of three or more people.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
