Who we are?Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan. The Upper School, located in the Bronx, is comprised of approximately 600 students and 80 faculty members.

Position SummaryThe Communications Manager is an integral part of the school community. This role will work closely with the communications team on strategic ideation and day-to-day assignments. In addition to engaging with parents/guardians, board members, faculty/staff, and alumni.

They will support marketing, public relations, and admissions communications initiatives and possess the ability to tell the stories of our community in modern, fun, and engaging ways that help to connect our constituents to our mission and to each other.

This role will be accountable for content development for Operations and Auxiliary Programs ie: after school, transportation,social media content management, video creation, database maintenance and website content support, supporting divisional content development for newsletters, as well as Fieldnotes and the Reporter magazine.

The hiring range for this position is $70,000-$75,000. When determining the salary for an offer, ECFS considers factors including, but not limited to: the scope and responsibilities of the position, internal peer equity, key skills required for the role, the candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as market and organizational considerations.

Please note that this is an onsite role and is not performed remotely. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.

ResponsibilitiesSpecific Responsibilities will include:

Editorial Content:Pitch, write, and edit both short- and long-form stories about the ECFS community that are shared on all channels (web, print, social).

Digital/Social Media Management: Manage editorial strategy and calendar for ECFS’s social media channels (currently Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube), including day-to-day social media posts, visual assets, and video content creation. As part of managing the ECFS social media channels, this candidate will keep abreast of any new trends/ideas and introduce, pilot, and test new tactics and strategies. They will also monitor community responses and engagement.

Ongoing Community Engagement: Share stories (via website content, social media posts, print magazine) that keep the community engaged and informed, capturing events through videography and photography, in order to create digital content that is interesting and informative.

This role will also be required to work on other related projects as assigned, and should be flexible with the needs of the department.

Position RequirementsThe successful incumbent will possess:

A Bachelor’s degree;At least 3–5 years of marketing, communications, media, or journalism experience;Strong written and verbal communication skills with an exceptional eye for detail;Editorial experience and expertise is required;The ability to edit for clarity and style, proofreading and accustomed to learning a style guide;Expertise with technology and social media platforms: An expert in social media management using various social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.), and website technologies (such as WordPress).The capacity to support and develop a team while keeping projects on schedule;The ability to collaborate and work well with faculty, administrators, parents and student community;A positive, receptive, customer-service-oriented attitude;Knowledge in photo/video/audio editing.Ability to write quickly and effectively in a range of styles for different audiences;Previous experience with web content management systems and web/design technologies (e.g. Mailchimp, BlackBaud, Google Analytics, Adobe Creative Cloud);A collaborative work style to effectively engage with all relevant members of the school community and provide communications support in line with ECFS mission and goals;Creative thinking and problem-solving skills;Confidence in ability to stay calm in stressful situations that may arise;Demonstrated interest in youth education is a plus;Ability to work efficiently independently, and/or collaboratively;Willingness to learn and embrace new ideas, technology and processes;The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and required;Respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms;The ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
