Welcome to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District website. We are the largest school district in Santa Barbara County with about 17,500 pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students. In the heart of the coastal agricultural area, we celebrate our families and the support they provide to the students of the District. BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of responsible complex and technical clerical duties requiring specialized knowledge and independent judgment; coordinate and organize a specific set of functional activities within a work unit.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Perform complex and technical clerical responsibilities related to an assigned function E ; organize a specific set of functional activities within a work unit E ; review, audit, and monitor the development of a variety of technical reports and statistical data E ; locate and separate data from a variety of informational sources E ; devise forms to compile and separate data E ; determine report formatting E ; provide technical information concerning policies and procedures of assigned programs or office E ; may prepare correspondence in response to technical questions according to established guidelines E ; type from rough draft, notes or oral instruction E ; establish and maintain various alphabetical, and numerical and subject matter files and records E ; compile information and prepare reports and summaries E ; operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, transcription and word processing equipment, typewriter and computer terminal to input and extract data from an automated information management, storage, and retrieval system E ; assist in the orientation and training of other clerical personnel as required; perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Standard office practices, procedures and equipment;Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary;Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities;Recordkeeping techniques;Operations, procedures, specific rules and precedents of the office.

Ability to:

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others;Compile and verify data and prepare reports;Operate office machines including a computer and applicable software to enter data, maintain records and generate reports;Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures;Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions;Understand and follow oral and written instructions;Perform complex or varied tasks;Utilize alphabetical and numerical filing systems;Type 50 words per minute;Compose correspondence and written materials independently.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School and sufficient training to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above, and two years of responsible and technical clerical experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross must be obtained within six months of employment (school site assignment).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment:

Office environment;Constant interruptions (school site assignment).

Physical Abilities:

Sitting and operating a keyboard to enter data into a computerterminal for extended periods of time;Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard;Kneeling or crouching, reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally and bending at the waist to store and retrieve files;Hearing and speaking to exchange information;Seeing to read various materials;Lifting light objects.

Hazards:

Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids (school site assignment);Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals (school site assignment).

Requirements / Qualifications

CPR/First Aid Certification (Current or within 6 months of hire. If you do not have a current typing certificate, please attach a document stating you will obtain one within 6 months if hired.)Proof of HS Graduation
