Hiring salary: $71,110.41 - $88,888.01/year

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adjusts lost time and medical only workers' compensation claims for all City employees as a member of the Risk Management Division of the Finance Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Adjusts lost time and medical only workers' compensation claimsPerforms investigations of claim incidents to verify compensability of claims and to determine the nature and extent of the claim as well as methods to prevent future accidents and injuriesCommunicates with injured City employees, supervisors and managers as well as other City personnel, medical personnel, attorneys and insurance carriersWith management approval, conducts settlement negotiations, and, when negotiations are successful, administers and prepares settlement documents.Coordinates return to work status with employees, supervisors and medical personnelInitiates and administers subrogation actionsCoordinates litigation with outside counsel and prepares correspondence to all partiesTimely files all admissions and other filings in accordance with State of Colorado statutes and administrative rulesCalculates claim reserves and sets reserves with management approvalMaintains database and records related to claims function in the Risk Management Information System (RMIS)Coordinates with the Safety work unit to prevent future accidents.Assists in the preparation of training sessions and materialsPerforms other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.Experience

:

At least 5 years experience in worker's compensation lost time claims adjustment.An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Knowledge:

Knowledge of applicable State of Colorado workers' compensation Statutes and Administrative RulesPersonal computer software application including database, spreadsheet and word processing applications.Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with claimants, employees and citizens.Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to use de-escalation techniques to handle sensitive/emotional situations.Skills:

Strong interpersonal skills.
