Job Description:
At Regions, the Mainframe Systems Engineer installs and maintains mainframe operating systems ensuring the stability, performance and security of our mainframe environment while driving innovation and continuous improvement.
Primary ResponsibilitiesEvaluates system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibilityTroubleshoots and resolves complex technical issues related to mainframe systems and applicationsAdministers, configures, and maintains mainframe systems, including hardware, operating systems, and software componentsMaintains operational effectiveness and efficiency by monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting mainframe operating systemsMaintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standardsMaintains installation records by documenting system configurations, procedures, and best practicesResolves problems by determining cause, providing technical assistance to applications and other support staffDevelops and implements backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuityCovers on call 24x7 on a rotating basis for problem resolution and SEV1 incidentsThis position is exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related field and six (6) years of mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installation experienceOr, a High School Diploma or GED with ten (10) years of experience of mainframe infrastructure technical software and hardware analysis, programming, and installationExperience in installation and support of Mainframe system products including ZOS, CICS, MQ, DB2, Storage, Automation, ZLINUX or NetworkingExperience in problem determination, installation and support of mainframe products, disaster recovery experience and knowledge, and performance and tuning experienceExperience in opening, managing, solving, and closing problems with vendor support centersSkills and Competencies
Ability to work in a team environment when applicableAbility to work under limited guidanceAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesExcellent problem solving and trouble shooting skillsStrong communication and collaboration abilitiesStrong understanding of mainframe hardwareThis position must be within a reasonable driving distance to a Branch, Consumer Operations, or Professional Office Building with the location being for

Support the install, upgrade and configuration pre/post implementation of large-scale IBM zOS and ISV software technologies in a multi-LPAR environment.zOS RSU install, support, and migration.Work with other teams (subsystems, operations, as well as application/business groups) to support product installs, upgrades, and issues.Install and support a broad range of products from IBM, Broadcom, BMC/Compuware, and other vendors.Make use of HMC/Console for systems IPL, weight changes, resource management.HCD Changes: such as IODF creation/activation.Network/Security/Automation basics: VTAM, TCPIP, NDM, RACF, Ops/MVS.Disaster/recovery, rotational on-call, after-hours/weekend work/support.ServiceNow issue tracking & change/incident management systems.Position TypeFull time

Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.
