Log truck drivers operate heavy duty trucks and transport logs from jobsites in the forest to a mill or sort yard. This involves heavy duty, specially designed trucks that can handle heavy loads, rough terrain and difficult conditions.

Responsibilities include:

- Transporting logs from the forest jobsite to the mill or sort yard while maintaining safety and efficiency

-Inspecting the truck and trailer

-Securing the load with a cables, chains, binders and swede

-Drive safely, defensibly and anticipate hazards

-Maintain accurate logs and records required by federal/ state regulations

-Adhere to all safety rules and regulations, and company policies

-Communicate effectively with dispatcher, customers, other drivers

-Using good time management skills

-Working in adverse conditions (fire season, winter weather conditions that may include snow and ice)

-Reading maps and driving directions

-Reporting any issues, incidents to a supervisor immediately

-Perform other duties or assignments

Qualifications include:

Valid class A CDL (without a automatic transmission restriction)

Valid medical certificate

Good driving record

Good work history

Good attitude, must be able to work well with others in a team environment

Willingness to work long hours in potentially adverse conditions

Registered with the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse

Physical requirements:

Lifting and carry objects up to 75 pounds (tire chains)

Pulling up to 60 pounds (opening truck hood)

Able to climb in and out of the cab of truck many times per day

Able to sit for extended periods of time while driving

Able to work in all weather conditions including extreme heat and cold

Ability to potentially work up to 70 hours per week

Misc. info:

Work schedule is Monday thru Friday (home nights and weekends)

Drivers annually average 55 hours per week, up to 70 hours per week

Myrtle Creek yard- fueling, washing, tire work, weekly inspection and all Maintenace is performed by shop personnel

Coos Bay, Goshen yard- tire work, weekly inspection, and Maintenace is performed by shop personnel

Most hauling is done within 150 air miles of terminal (Local, short-haul exemption)

Drivers may have the ability to park their truck at home, but on a case-by-case basis
